Overview
The Teacher’s Aide supports classroom teachers by assisting with instruction, student supervision, classroom management, and individualized student support. The Teacher’s Aide works under the direction of the classroom teacher and school administration to help create a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment for students in grades K–8.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist teachers with daily classroom activities, instructional materials, and student learning tasks.
- Provide support to students individually or in small groups under the guidance of the classroom teacher.
- Help implement lesson activities, assignments, and accommodations for students with diverse learning needs.
- Assist students with organization, classroom routines, and development of positive learning behaviors.
- Support students receiving special education services, including assistance with accommodations and modifications identified by the educational team.
- Monitor and reinforce appropriate student behavior using school-approved behavior support strategies.
- Assist with classroom preparation, including organizing materials, copying assignments, and maintaining an orderly learning environment.
- Supervise students during transitions, arrival/dismissal, lunch, recess, and other school activities as assigned.
- Provide encouragement and positive reinforcement to promote student success and independence.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and records.
- Communicate student concerns and progress with the classroom teacher and appropriate school staff.
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school activities as required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Paraprofessional Certification (Preferred)
- Experience working with children in an educational, childcare, or youth-focused setting preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, families, and support staff.
- Strong communication, patience, organization, and classroom management skills.
- Ability to support students with academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.
Required Employment Clearances
Successful candidates must complete required Pennsylvania employment clearances, which may include:
- PA Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 151)
- PA Criminal History Check (Act 34)
- FBI Federal Criminal History/Fingerprint Clearance (Act 114)
- Other required employment documentation and screenings
Work Environment
The Teacher’s Aide works in a K–8 school environment and supports students in general education and special education settings. The position requires flexibility, teamwork, and a commitment to supporting student achievement and well-being.
Pay: $14.00 - $16.00 per hour
