Charter School ESL Teacher

The Robert Benjamin Wiley Community Charter School in Erie, Pa is seeking an ESL Teacher for the 26/27 SY who is dedicated to the academic success and support of our students.

Applicants must possess a minimum of a bachelor's degree and a valid Pennsylvania Teaching Certification.

• Certification in ESL (Preferred)
• Proficiency in an additional language is a plus.

Position Summary

The ESL Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality English language instruction and academic support to English Learner (EL) students in a charter school setting. The teacher will create an inclusive, engaging, and culturally responsive learning environment that helps multilingual learners develop English proficiency while successfully accessing grade-level academic content.

The ideal candidate is a compassionate, collaborative, and culturally responsive educator who is committed to supporting students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging ESL/English Language Development lessons aligned with state standards and school curriculum.
• Provide differentiated instruction based on students’ English proficiency levels, academic needs, and learning styles.
• Support English Learners in developing listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to provide appropriate language supports and accommodations within content-area instruction.
• Develop individualized instructional strategies and interventions for students who require additional language support.
• Monitor, document, and communicate student progress using appropriate assessments and data.
• Administer and assist with required English language proficiency assessments and maintain accurate student records.
• Create a welcoming and culturally responsive classroom environment that values students’ languages, identities, and experiences.
• Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, academic goals, and available support services.
• Collaborate with administrators, special education staff, counselors, and other members of the student support team.
• Participate in professional development, staff meetings, parent conferences, and school activities.
• Maintain a safe, respectful, structured, and supportive learning environment.
• Follow all school policies, applicable state and federal requirements, and charter school procedures related to English Learners.

Work Environment

This position is primarily performed in a school/classroom environment. The teacher may work with students individually, in small groups, and in whole-class settings. The position may require participation in school events, professional development, meetings, and occasional activities outside regular instructional hours.

Pay: $48,496.50 - $52,552.50 per year
