What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Inspector I/II position at Road Commission for Oakland County?

Duties

  • Complete technician and inspector assignments both in-house and in the field.
  • Serve as the inspection/technical specialist in subdivision road development activities (e.g. storm sewers, sub-local road construction, primary road approaches).
  • Perform a broad range of activities related to the development of plans for road construction including but not limited to, obtaining field measurements of existing facilities, researching and keeping records, computations, plan preparation and reproduction. During the off season, learning and utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D for design work.
  • Confers with RCOC engineering personnel on SID projects, or as it may relate to citizen concerns.
  • Work collaboratively with contractors, developers, etc. in evaluating solutions to construction concerns or problems.
  • May participate in public meetings to present and implement the RCOC special assessment program to citizens.
  • Use job-related software and other information processing systems for record-keeping, correspondence, etc.
  • Must perform duties in a professional and courteous manner to promote a positive image of the Road Commission for Oakland County.
  • Requires a daily schedule that supports RCOC hours of operation.
  • Regular and predictable onsite job attendance is an essential function of this position.

Special Experience/Education

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Knowledge in algebra and geometry sufficient to perform calculations.
  • A minimum of three years' technical or construction inspection experience commensurate with the duties described above is required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Michigan Driver's License.

This position is within a bargaining unit and the individual that holds this position is subject to the terms and conditions of the existing collective bargaining agreement.
