We’re seeking a detail-oriented Commercial Estimator to join our Richmond office. The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for commercial projects ranging from $1M to $10M, including renovations, tenant build-outs, and facility upgrades, with occasional ground-up new construction.
This position offers significant room for professional growth within RMT’s expanding preconstruction department. The ideal candidate is analytical, proactive, and comfortable collaborating closely with the project management team, clients, and trade partners to ensure precision and value in every estimate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for all divisions of work.
- Review plans, specifications, and bid documents to ensure scope completeness.
- Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and supplier bids.
- Develop bid scopes and assist in subcontractor selection.
- Collaborate with the Preconstruction Team and leadership to review and refine budgets.
- Identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving alternatives.
- Maintain historical cost data and assist with continuous cost database updates.
- Support pre-construction meetings and proposal preparation as needed.
Qualifications:
- 3–7 years of experience in commercial estimating or preconstruction.
- Strong knowledge of construction means, methods, and CSI divisions.
- Experience with commercial renovations, tenant build-outs, and facility upgrades; new construction experience a plus.
- Proficiency in estimating software (Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, etc.), Microsoft Excel, & project management tools.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to interpret architectural and engineering drawings accurately.
- Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required

Salary : $85,000 - $115,000
