Position Summary
The Occupational Therapist (OT) evaluates, plans, and implements individualized treatment programs designed to help patients improve their functional abilities, increase independence, and achieve their rehabilitation goals. This role collaborates with the interdisciplinary healthcare team, supports quality improvement initiatives, and provides supervision and guidance to Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs).
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited Occupational Therapy program required.
Current Louisiana Occupational Therapy license required.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare team members.
Ability to work independently while functioning effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Ability to adapt to changing patient needs and a dynamic healthcare environment.
Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to direct and perform work according to departmental standards with minimal supervision.
Emotional maturity and the ability to function effectively under stress.
Ability to provide care for patients of all ages and varying levels of physical, cognitive, behavioral, and emotional needs.
Key Responsibilities
Evaluate patients and develop individualized occupational therapy treatment plans.
Implement evidence-based treatment programs according to the principles and practices of Occupational Therapy.
Assess patient progress and modify treatment plans as needed to achieve optimal outcomes.
Provide therapeutic interventions to improve functional abilities, independence, mobility, and activities of daily living.
Supervise and collaborate with Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs) to ensure quality patient care.
Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, case management, and rehabilitation team members to coordinate patient care.
Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
Educate patients and families regarding treatment goals, adaptive techniques, safety strategies, and home programs.
Maintain accurate, complete, and timely patient documentation.
Observe professional ethics and maintain strict confidentiality of all patient, family, medical, financial, and employment information in accordance with HIPAA regulations and Riverside Medical Center policies.
Follow accepted patient safety practices and organizational policies.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
