Senior Systems Engineer – Genetec (Access Control & Video Surveillance SME)Location: [Hybrid / Field / HQ – Woburn, MA or Project-Based] Reports To: Director of Engineering / VP EngineeringPosition SummaryRL Controls is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer – Genetec SME to lead the design, integration, and lifecycle support of enterprise security platforms across transit vehicle and infrastructure environments.This role serves as the technical authority for Genetec Security Center, including video surveillance (Omnicast), access control (Synergis), AutoVu LPR, Sipelia, and associated headend server and storage architectures.The ideal candidate combines enterprise software architecture expertise with practical field experience deploying systems in complex, multi-site, and mobile environments (bus, rail, yards, stations, and communications facilities).This is a hands-on engineering leadership role responsible for design standards, integration strategy, commissioning, and technical mentorship.Primary Responsibilities:System Architecture & DesignLead design of enterprise Genetec Security Center systems including:Omnicast (Video Management)Synergis (Access Control)AutoVu (License Plate Recognition)Sipelia (Intercom)Federation and multi-site architecturesArchitect headend environments including:Virtualized and physical serversSQL database configurationsNVR architecturesStorage sizing and performance modelingRedundancy and failover strategiesDevelop detailed design packages:Network topology diagramsRack elevationsStorage calculationsServer specificationsCybersecurity segmentation strategiesVehicle & Mobile IntegrationDesign and integrate Genetec solutions with:Mobile video recordersOnboard vehicle networksLTE/5G/WiFi offload systemsGPS and CAD/AVL integrationsVehicle health and monitoring systemsSupport LPR deployments on transit vehicles and fixed infrastructure.Develop standards for ruggedized and mobile deployment environments.Infrastructure & Field Deployment OversightSupport installation teams during:Rack buildoutsCommissioningSystem configurationDatabase setupCamera and access device onboardingLead FAT/SAT testing.Troubleshoot complex multi-layer integration issues (network, database, server, edge devices).Develop configuration standards and commissioning checklists.Integration & InteroperabilityIntegrate Genetec with:Lenel (where applicable)PIDS systemsRadio and dispatch systemsThird-party analyticsAPI-based integrationsSupport custom plug-in validation and third-party device certification.Review RFP specifications and develop compliance strategies.Technical LeadershipServe as company-wide Genetec SME.Mentor engineers and field technicians.Establish engineering standards for:Server buildsCyber hardeningVersion control and upgrade managementLicensing strategiesSupport bid development with:Architecture inputBOM validationRisk identificationLabor estimatesRequired QualificationsGenetec Security Center Certification (Technical Certification required; ETCP preferred)8 years in enterprise video surveillance and access control systems5 years hands-on Genetec system design and deploymentExperience with:Server virtualization (VMware / Hyper-V)SQL database managementNetwork architecture (VLANs, multicast, QoS)Storage performance sizing (IOPS calculations)Experience deploying systems in transit, transportation, or critical infrastructure environmentsStrong working knowledge of:IP camera systemsAccess control panelsLPR systemsIntercom integrationsAbility to travel to project sites as requiredPreferred QualificationsExperience in transit environments (MBTA, WMATA, MTA, Amtrak, etc.)Knowledge of cybersecurity standards (NIST, CIS benchmarks)Experience with mobile surveillance platformsFamiliarity with Lenel or other enterprise ACS platformsNICET certification (preferred but not required)Core CompetenciesSystems-level thinkingStrong documentation disciplineField troubleshooting capabilityCustomer-facing technical leadershipRisk identification and mitigationAbility to balance engineering purity with schedule realitiesPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
