Position Summary
RL Controls is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer – Genetec SME to lead the design, integration, and lifecycle support of enterprise security platforms across transit vehicle and infrastructure environments.
This role serves as the technical authority for Genetec Security Center, including video surveillance (Omnicast), access control (Synergis), AutoVu LPR, Sipelia, and associated headend server and storage architectures.
The ideal candidate combines enterprise software architecture expertise with practical field experience deploying systems in complex, multi-site, and mobile environments (bus, rail, yards, stations, and communications facilities).
This is a hands-on engineering leadership role responsible for design standards, integration strategy, commissioning, and technical mentorship.

- Lead design of enterprise Genetec Security Center systems including:
- Omnicast (Video Management)
- Synergis (Access Control)
- AutoVu (License Plate Recognition)
- Sipelia (Intercom)
- Federation and multi-site architectures
- Virtualized and physical servers
- SQL database configurations
- NVR architectures
- Storage sizing and performance modeling
- Redundancy and failover strategies
- Network topology diagrams
- Rack elevations
- Storage calculations
- Server specifications
- Cybersecurity segmentation strategies
- Design and integrate Genetec solutions with:
- Mobile video recorders
- Onboard vehicle networks
- LTE/5G/WiFi offload systems
- GPS and CAD/AVL integrations
- Vehicle health and monitoring systems
Infrastructure & Field Deployment Oversight
- Support installation teams during:
- Rack buildouts
- Commissioning
- System configuration
- Database setup
- Camera and access device onboarding
Integration & Interoperability
- Integrate Genetec with:
- Lenel (where applicable)
- PIDS systems
- Radio and dispatch systems
- Third-party analytics
- API-based integrations
Technical Leadership
- Serve as company-wide Genetec SME.
- Mentor engineers and field technicians.
- Establish engineering standards for:
- Server builds
- Cyber hardening
- Version control and upgrade management
- Licensing strategies
- Architecture input
- BOM validation
- Risk identification
- Labor estimates
- Genetec Security Center Certification (Technical Certification required; ETCP preferred)
- 8 years in enterprise video surveillance and access control systems
- 5 years hands-on Genetec system design and deployment
- Experience with:
- Server virtualization (VMware / Hyper-V)
- SQL database management
- Network architecture (VLANs, multicast, QoS)
- Storage performance sizing (IOPS calculations)
- IP camera systems
- Access control panels
- LPR systems
- Intercom integrations
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in transit environments (MBTA, WMATA, MTA, Amtrak, etc.)
- Knowledge of cybersecurity standards (NIST, CIS benchmarks)
- Experience with mobile surveillance platforms
- Familiarity with Lenel or other enterprise ACS platforms
- NICET certification (preferred but not required)
- Systems-level thinking
- Strong documentation discipline
- Field troubleshooting capability
- Customer-facing technical leadership
- Risk identification and mitigation
- Ability to balance engineering purity with schedule realities
