Job Overview
RJ Recycling LLC, a division of The ProTrade Group Inc, a full service scrap yard located in Nitro, WV, is seeking a reliable, experienced Shear Operator to run heavy machinery in our scrap yard. This role is hands-on and requires someone comfortable working outdoors in all conditions while keeping safety and efficiency top of mind.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate hydraulic scrap shears to process ferrous and non-ferrous materials
- Cut oversized scrap into specifications required by customers or mills
- Load and position materials for efficient cutting
- Adjust machine settings based on material type and thickness
- Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance
- Keep work areas clean and organized
- Work closely with yard staff, scale operators, and management
- Follow all company safety procedures and OSHA guidelines
Qualifications
- Previous experience operating heavy equipment required (scrap yard experience is a plus)
- Ability to safely operate equipment in tight, active yard conditions
- Strong awareness of surroundings and safety practices
- Willingness to work in outdoor environments year-round
- Dependable, punctual, and team-oriented
- Ability to lift 50 lbs when needed
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
