Job Title: Construction Purchasing Agent

Position Summary:
We are currently seeking a Construction Purchasing Agent with experience in heavy civil, mechanical, and public works construction to join our team. This role is responsible for the procurement of materials, equipment, rentals, and services required to support complex infrastructure and public sector projects. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing vendor relationships and procurement logistics to ensure successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Procure materials, equipment, subcontracted services, and rentals for heavy civil, mechanical, and public works construction projects.
- Work closely with estimators and project managers to understand project specifications, scope, and timelines.
- Prepare and issue accurate and detailed purchase orders; follow up with vendors to ensure timely delivery and adherence to project schedules and budgets.
- Maintain a comprehensive procurement database to track pricing, specifications, warranties, and delivery timelines.
- Ensure compliance with public works requirements, including prevailing wage, Buy America(n), and other contract-specific provisions.
- Assist with the preparation of bids and proposals for public works projects, including reviewing bid documents, addenda, and submission requirements.
- Communicate with clients (public agency owners), estimators, and internal stakeholders to coordinate the proposal process and track bid opportunities.
- Identify and develop strong supplier relationships to optimize pricing, lead times, and quality.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience in construction purchasing or procurement is required; experience in heavy civil, mechanical, or public works projects is highly preferred.
- Solid understanding of construction materials, equipment, and subcontracted services related to infrastructure and public projects.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other procurement or construction management software.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills; able to collaborate with vendors, project teams, and management.
- High level of attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with bidding and proposal preparation for public sector work.
- Familiarity with government contracting procedures and compliance requirements (e.g., Caltrans, municipal agencies, Army Corps, etc.).
- Knowledge of mechanical systems and heavy civil components (pipelines, utilities, earthwork, structural concrete, etc.).
