Education Paraprofessional Classroom Assistant (Shared or 1:1 ) PERA Pension

Education Paraprofessionals and classroom assistants support instruction, behavior, and regulation in the classrooms and outdoors by working with groups and individuals during the school day. A degree is not required, but it is preferred so that a substitute teaching license can be acquired to assist with subbing during licensed staff absences. Any post-secondary education is preferred to be a highly qualified candidate.

There is currently one position available for assignment between 32-40 hours per week/5-days per week.

Placement is likely as shared assistant (1:1 or up to 1:3 is typical) in the mainstream and/or SPED classrooms working primarily with elementary students of all levels, but assignments can be flexible with the multiple paraprofessionals and changing student needs. Each classroom has a team of adults working inside it, and the SPED department has 5 teachers and multiple assistants/paraprofessionals. The primary classrooms have a SPED teacher staffed in it for co-teaching.

Riverway is a PreK-12 environmental school and small-school setting with much time spent outside and at recess in idyllic outdoor settings. We are also a Montessori-informed setting in the primary school although literacy and math receive direct instruction. The secondary school (7-12) is a problem-solving focused and small school environment that is ideal for relationships and support academically, emotionally, and socially. No cell phones and personal devices are allowed for all students from 8:00-3:15 and screen time for students is minimized. Healthy and wholistic learning and living is promoted with a mission to match. All staff assist and model taking care of our immediate environment (including the building, grounds, and our school forest) as a model and guide for students.

All positions require a basic resume/work history, interview, and background check.

Work hours are approximately 8am-3/4pm, and assistant positions are typically full-time at 40 hours in addition to being part of the PERA pension system. The schedule follows the traditional school year, summer school is optional, and paychecks are spread equally over the 12-month year (24 periods) to help with summer budgeting. Full-time positions have an employer-paid life insurance policy and flexible scheduling with paid-time off. Health insurance is not an option, but employees have access to vision, dental, disability, and additional life insurance as employee-paid options.

We are a small school environment with multi-age rooms that have 3 grade levels per room (approximately 20 or 24 students staffed with 2-3 adults). You work closely with other adults on a supportive team of dedicated and experienced professionals, and the culture and climate is kind, compassionate, and caring.

Pay: $16.00 - $22.00 per hour
