Vocational Instructor / Thrift Store Retail Associate
Riverview School is an independent coeducational boarding/day school, providing a caring community and learning environment for adolescents and young adults with complex language, learning and cognitive disabilities. We are committed to developing student competence and confidence in academic, social and independent living skills.
We have an immediate opening for a Vocational Instructor/Thrift Store Associate to support our student vocational training program while helping operate our community thrift store. This unique role combines hands-on job coaching for young adults with learning differences and customer-facing retail responsibilities.
Classification: Non-exempt/hourly
Part-time, 52-week on-site position
Schedule: 2 or 3 six-hour shifts per week (8:30 am to 2:30 pm) on a set weekday, plus one Saturday shift (9:00 am to 2:30 pm) a month
Key Responsibilities
Vocational Instruction
• Provide hands-on job training and workplace coaching to student employees and trainees.
• Teach job skills, workplace expectations, and positive work habits.
• Adapt tasks and workstations to support student success.
• Monitor student progress, maintain documentation, and communicate with program leadership.
• Serve as a positive role model while fostering independence, confidence, and a strong work ethic.
Thrift Store Operations
• Deliver outstanding customer service to shoppers, donors, and community members.
• Sort, price, tag, merchandise, and sell donated items.
• Assist with donation intake and evaluate items for resale.
• Maintain an organized, attractive, and welcoming store environment.
• Process sales transactions and reconcile cash and payment records.
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
• Associate's degree preferred.
• Retail experience preferred
• Experience in education, retail, vocational training, human services, or a related field.
• Experience working with adolescents or young adults with learning differences is preferred.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
Requirements:

• Legal authorization to work in the US
• Suitable background check result and fingerprinting required
• Adult CPR/AED/Standard First Aid certified or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
• Ability to physically navigate a shop/retail space environment
• Valid driver's license
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time, lift and carry up to 25lbs.
