What are the responsibilities and job description for the BHT - Night Shift position at RiverValley Behavioral Health?
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care & Supervision
- Provide 1:1 or line-of-sight supervision as assigned
- Conduct routine safety checks and maintain a secure environment
- Monitor, observe, and document patient behavior and well-being
- Assist patients with daily living activities (eating, hygiene, grooming, etc.)
Behavioral & Therapeutic Support
- Implement individualized treatment plans using ABA-based strategies
- Teach communication, social, and daily living skills in individual and group settings
- Use de-escalation techniques to manage challenging behaviors
- Serve as a positive role model for patients
Documentation & Communication
- Complete daily logs, observation notes, and required documentation accurately
- Communicate effectively with nursing staff and supervisors regarding patient status
- Report significant changes or concerns promptly
Environment & Unit Support
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment
- Clean common areas, bathrooms, and high-touch surfaces
- Perform laundry duties (linens, towels)
- Manage supplies and soiled linens
- Take out trash at the beginning and end of shift
- Assist with new patient admissions
- Support team members to ensure all duties are completed
Activities & Engagement
- Plan and lead structured activities during non-scheduled times
- Collaborate with Recreation Therapy staff to support patient engagement
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required (Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field preferred)
- Experience working with children, adolescents, or individuals with behavioral health needs preferred
- Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a plus
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm and effective in high-stress situations
Knowledge and Skills:
- Understand the objectives for each child according to the ABLLS-R curriculum, and individualized behavior intervention plans.
- Comprehend and utilize basic ABA terminology.
Salary : $17 - $20
