Essential Duties
- Clinical Leadership: Oversee and guide the daily activities of the unit, promotes that all clinical practices and patient care protocols are adhered to with the utmost professionalism and accuracy. The Team Leader is responsible for coordination of care, admission and discharge planning, making assignments, and supervising unit staff while on shift.
- Patient Care: Assumes a patient assignment as needed to provide direct patient care, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care plans. Manage complex cases and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive patient care.
- Treatment Administration: Administer medications, treatments, and procedures as ordered by provider. Monitor patient responses to treatments and update care plans as necessary to ensure optimal outcomes.
- Patient and Family Education: Provide comprehensive cultural and age appropriate education to patients and their families regarding medical conditions, treatment plans, and care procedures. Ensure that patients and families are well-informed about managing their health and any required follow-up care, addressing questions and concerns to support their understanding and participation in the care process.
- Infection Control: Adhere to infection control protocols and ensure a clean and safe environment for patients and staff. Implement standard precautions and safety measures to prevent the spread of infections.
- Team Coordination: Facilitate effective communication among nursing staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. Promote teamwork and provide support and guidance to nursing staff to ensure cohesive patient care.
- Staff Training and Development: Mentor and train new and existing staff members. Provide ongoing performance coaching and constructive feedback to enhance team skills and professional growth.
- Quality Improvement: Partners with the Nurse Manager to monitor and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, standards, and best practices. Engage in quality improvement initiatives, Evidence Based Practice, and research when applicable along with clinical audits to enhance patient care outcomes. Address patient and family concerns promptly and effectively.
- Emergency Response: Lead the clinical response during emergencies, ensuring patient and staff safety and coordinating with other healthcare providers.
- Administrative Duties: Assist the Nurse Manager with staffing, scheduling, timekeeping, interviews, managing expenses, and other administrative tasks as needed to support the operational efficiency of the unit.
- Patient Experience: Conduct patient rounds. Engage with patients and their families in a manner that promotes comfort, trust, and understanding. Address patient concerns with empathy and professionalism, striving to create a positive and supportive environment that fosters a sense of security and well-being.
- Employee Experience: Contribute to a positive and collaborative work environment. Offer constructive feedback and assistance to peers, and engage in open communication to promote a culture of mutual respect and teamwork.
- Team member will maintain annual education requirements for hospital-based certifications (e.g. DNV CARF and or others)
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training to stay current with best practices.
- Participate in hospital committees and task forces as needed to support organizational goals and improvements.

Preferred Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in an acute care setting preferred.
- Experience caring for patient populations across the lifespan is highly desirable.
- Basic ECG rhythm interpretation skills preferred.
- Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Illinois.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- New Graduate RNs starting on or after 1/1/25 must earn Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) within 3 years of start date.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree preferred.
- Professional certification in nursing specialty preferred.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred or within 1 year of hire
