The Hospital/Healthcare Security Department Team Leader is responsible for overseeing and managing a team of security officers within the healthcare facility. This role involves supervising daily security operations, ensuring the safety and security of patients, staff, and visitors, and providing leadership and support to the security team. The Team Leader will also be involved in developing and implementing security policies, responding to incidents, and coordinating with other departments to enhance overall facility safety.
Essential Duties
- Lead and supervise a team of security officers, including scheduling shifts, assigning duties, and providing training and guidance to ensure effective security operations.
- Oversee daily security operations, including patrols, monitoring of surveillance systems, and response to security incidents. Ensure that all security protocols and procedures are followed.
- Respond to and manage security incidents, emergencies, and disturbances, taking appropriate actions to resolve issues and ensure the safety of all individuals.
- Develop, implement, and enforce security policies and procedures in accordance with hospital standards, legal requirements, and best practices.
- Prepare and review detailed reports on security incidents, activities, and operations. Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all security-related events.
- Collaborate with hospital departments, law enforcement, and emergency response teams to address security concerns and coordinate responses to incidents.
- Conduct training sessions for security staff on policies, procedures, emergency response, and customer service. Mentor and support team members to enhance their skills and performance.
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing inquiries and concerns from patients, visitors, and staff. Ensure that security officers maintain a professional and helpful demeanor.
- Promote a culture of safety within the facility, identifying and addressing potential security risks and recommending improvements to enhance overall security.
- Utilize de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention skills to manage and diffuse situations involving agitated, disruptive, or potentially violent individuals. Work to resolve conflicts peacefully and prevent escalation.
- Provide 24 hour video surveillance by the use of closed circuit television in the prevention of crime.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Demonstrates flexibility with assignments within professional scope/duties/licensure.
Preferred Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in security, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role, preferably in a healthcare or institutional setting.
- Strong understanding of security and safety protocols, emergency response procedures, and access control systems.
- Proven leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with diverse groups.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle high-pressure situations calmly and decisively.
- Proficiency in using security equipment, including surveillance systems and alarm panels.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid drivers license and a clean driving record
- Additional training or certification in security management or law enforcement is preferred.
