Job Description:
I. Responsible to: Director of Nursing
II. Purpose: To provide medical and health care services to clients, aimed at enhancing the physical wellbeing of each client.
III. Qualifications: Registered Nurse with valid Illinois license and one year post graduate nursing experience.
IV. Minimum Health Requirements:
A. Physical stamina and energy necessary to provide personal care to residents.
B. Ability to stand for periods up to 1 ½ hours intermittently throughout shift.
C. Ability to run or walk a distance of approximately 25 yards to assist with resident emergencies or for building evacuations.
D. Ability to provide physical support to residents if they are unsteady or falling.
E. Ability to lift 20 pounds.
F. Ability to provide physical management procedures in conjunction with behavior programs as trained and assigned.
G. Freedom from communicable disease.
V. Credentials: Copy of current license.
VI. Responsibilities:
A. Distribute medicine as prescribed by the physician and maintain medication inventory.
B. Provide first aid and emergency care as necessary.
C. Assist in communication of illness, seizures, to residential facilities.
D. Maintain all medical supplies as needed, including monthly checks of the first aid kits.
E. Participate as a member of the Safety Committee.
F. Assist staff with client groups that are medically oriented on an as needed basis.
G. Provide orientation to new staff regarding medical procedures and concerns.
H. Implement and document for all medication programs as assigned.
I. Know and assist with emergency evacuations.
J. May be acted upon aggressively from clients; i.e., hitting, kicking, slapping, biting and punching.
VII. Exposure to Environmental Conditions:
A. Occasional exposure to vapors from paint fumes (including oil based paints and stains).
B. Occasional exposure to cleaning chemicals.
C. Occasional exposure to industrial adhesives due to construction/remodeling.
D. Occasional exposure to dust due to construction/remodeling.
VII. Documentation:
A. Maintain records regarding medication distribution to clients.
B. Record incidents of accidents, illness, seizures, or physical abuse.
C. Maintain progress indicators for individualized programs.
