Recovery Café Lowell is a Bureau of Substance Addiction Services contracted peer-run day program that promotes support, stability, and human connection and upholds the belief that recovery is possible for everyone. Riverbend utilizes the Recovery Café Model in its peer recovery support center, which abides by the guiding principles to live reflectively, show respect, cultivate compassion, practice forgiveness, and encourage growth.
What We’re Looking For
Riverbend is looking for a Part-time Community Engagement/ Volunteer Coordinator to join the Lowell Peer Recovery Support Center (PRSC) team. We are looking for a candidate who aligns with the Recovery Café Model and its guiding principles of living reflectively, practicing respect, and encouraging growth. We are also looking for someone who believes in the impact that love and human connection have on a person’s recovery. This position is 20 hours per week
Desired Education, Experience, and Personal Characteristics
Our ideal person will possess a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid drivers license, and reliable transportation. S/he should be able to demonstrate cultural humility; has completed or is willing to complete the Recovery Coach academy and will work towards Recovery Coach certification (CARC) and possess a thorough understanding on the RC model and can apply this knowledge in a variety of settings. S/he will need to be an effective team member with an ability to work effectively with co-workers and RCL members. Strong ability to connect and communicate with others is important as this person will be primarily involved in working members. Individual should possess proficient computer and social media skills.
Job Summary
The Community Engagement/ Volunteer Coordinator will work with the RCL Team to uphold an environment within the support center that is welcoming, all-inclusive, and celebrates all recovery pathways. The Community Engagement/ Volunteer Coordinator will create relationships throughout the community for volunteering opportunities, community events, and build relationships to increase support for RCL members. The successful candidate will be a person with “lived experience” who thrives in an environment that supports innovation, creativity, and the vision to continuously grow with the ever-changing needs of the members
Position Reports To: Community Engagement Coordinator for the Lowell Peer Recovery Support Center (Recovery Café Lowell) reports to Jade Mellen, Program Director
Responsibilities:
- Stays up to date with community events and opportunities.
- Serves as the primary contact for volunteer recruitment, onboarding & training
- Implements and administer effective outreach programs or events.
- Work s toward increasing member access to community services and resources
- Keeping track of community issues and working with community members to increase any community engagement initiatives.
- Shares responsibility of utilizing Virtual Gateway system and AGENCY (Recovery Café database to track member activity.) and responsible for maintaining volunteer information in AGENCY database.
- Facilitate community meetings.
- Organize outreach events to promote the program.
- Shares responsibility for overseeing RCL front desk operations.
- Works with team to aid in daily cafe operations (i.e. inventory, latte hour, cookouts)
- Works with the RCL team to cultivate relationships with community partners interested in volunteering time or teaching a class.
- Facilitates recovery circles and peer support groups.
- Completes all required documentation promptly.
- Follows all opening/closing procedures.
- Participates in a weekly staff meeting and individual supervision with Program Director.
- Adheres to the guiding principles of the Recovery Café Model and the BSAS standards of care.
- Participates in training as required.
