Day Shuttle Driver

River Valley Holdings is a family-owned distribution company based in Syracuse, NY, serving retail customers across the northeastern United States. The River Valley family of companies: River Valley Foods, Cavallaro Foods and Garden Spot Foods, distributes a wide range of specialty dry and frozen grocery items and consumable products out of warehouses in Syracuse, NY and New Holland, PA.

Job Details:

The Day Shuttle Driver is primarily responsible for transport of products between our 3 facilities in Syracuse and spotting trailers into dock doors for loading. The Day Shuttle Driver may also need to take trucks and trailers for fuel and/or maintenance at our lease partners in Syracuse. The Day Shuttle Driver will also assist with loading and unloading freight as needed using powered equipment.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Safely and efficiently drives trailers between doors and company warehouses on a timely basis
• Communicate with warehouse team on a consistent basis to ensure continuous and timely movement of product between facilities (via cell phone or in person)
• Safely and efficiently couple and un-couple company trailers and 3rd party trailers to and from company vehicles
• Load and transfer products between our frozen warehouse (Farrell Rd) and main warehouse in Syracuse
• Load and transfer products between our overflow warehouse (Firestone Dr) and our main warehouse in Syracuse
• Load and transfer products between our Health & Wellness warehouse (New Court Ave) and our main warehouse in Syracuse
• Spot trailers and straight trucks in our yard into specified doors for loading
• Inspect spotter tractors, company trailers, and 3rd party trailers and report any equipment problems
• Checks refrigerator unit operations to ensure adequate product and temperature integrity
• Pick up and deliver company vehicles to lease partners for maintenance
• Fuel company vehicles as needed
• Perform yard checks as needed
• Keep accurate and legal FMCSA log and inspection reports, using electronic logging and dispatch software.
• Maintain in excellent condition and ensure the safety of all property assigned to the Driver 
• Keep inside of both vehicle cabs and boxes clean and organized
• Responsible to report all motor vehicle, safety, or personal vehicle violations immediately to supervisor (on or off duty)
• Dress in a business-like manner in company provided apparel while on duty and maintain a well-groomed professional appearance.
• Other job duties as assigned by supervisor

Essential Job Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

• Strong attention to detail
• Capable of being certified in use of forklifts and pallet jacks
• Able to meet physical requirements for sitting, climbing, standing and walking every day
• Able to read and write the English language and do standard mathematical computations
• Required to keep mobile communication resources, including cell phone, in assigned truck or on driver’s person to maintain communication with company personnel
• Able to work in adverse weather conditions, both heat and cold

Education and Experience:

• Possess CDL Class A Driver’s License with air brake certification
• One year of verifiable CDL Class A (air brakes) experience
• Satisfactory MVR with an excellent driving record with no preventable accidents within 1 year and no D.U.I. or suspension over 30 days within the past 3 years
• Pre-employment medical examination: A successful FMSCA - approved drug screen and pre-employment physical examination
• Successful completion of all written tests and a comprehensive road test
• Be well-versed in all rules and regulations governing the operation of commercial vehicles upon the highways

Schedule:

• Monday - Friday, 5am - 2:45pm
   

Wages:

• $26.00 - $28.00 per hour depending on experience
