Role Description The Controller is a full-time, on-site role based in Ottumwa, IA, responsible for overseeing the financial operations of River Hills Community Health Center. This position manages accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable and receivable, payroll review, and monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting. The Controller develops and monitors budgets, supports forecasting, and ensures compliance with relevant regulations, grant requirements, and internal policies. Day-to-day activities include analyzing financial performance, preparing reports for leadership and the Board, coordinating audits, and implementing internal controls to safeguard assets. The role collaborates closely with executive leadership, clinical and administrative teams, and external partners to support strategic decision-making and long-term financial sustainability.
Qualifications
- Strong accounting and finance skills, including general ledger management, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Knowledge of healthcare or nonprofit financial practices, including grants management, cost reporting, and regulatory compliance.
- Proficiency with accounting and financial systems, spreadsheets, and data analysis tools; ability to interpret and present financial data clearly.
- Experience in developing and maintaining internal controls, audit preparation, and risk management processes.
- Effective communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills with leadership, staff, and external stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain high attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification is preferred but not required.
- Prior experience in a controller, senior accountant, or similar leadership role, ideally within healthcare or community-based organizations.
