What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Shelter Assistant - Part Time position at River Bluff Humane Society?
If you love animals and want to make a difference in the lives of those waiting to find their new homes, then consider applying to work in your local animal shelter. This is a physically demanding job with lots of moving, bending, lifting and exposure to the elements and dirty tasks. It involves excellent customer service skills when interacting with the public, answering phones and scheduling appointments. Having an interest in community outreach event is also required to help promote the shelter.
Responsibilities:
- Daily cleaning and maintenance of cat & dog enclosures, including feeding, watering, and sanitizing
-Daily cleaning of the facility which includes sweeping, mopping, laundry, dishes, seasonal care
- Assist with medical treatments and administer medications under the guidance of management
- Handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately
-Participate in grooming procedures such as bathing client's dogs and performing nail trims/restraint
- Provide excellent customer service to the public, answering questions and providing information about available animals in person and over the phone
-Interacting with our volunteer groups, opportunities for outreach and community events and being an advocate for the shelter and promoting our mission.
Skills:
- Experience in animal care and/or handling animals is preferred but training can be provided
- Knowledge of animal care practices, including proper handling techniques and behavior
- Ability to perform heavy lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching as the job is physical
- Customer service skills to interact with the public and provide information about available animals and our services.
This job operates 7 days a week, holidays included so rotating weekend and holiday shifts are required. Regular weekday shifts are from 8a-11a or 12pm with the occasional 8 hr shift during the week if needed. Weekend shifts are from 8a-4p
