Role Description The EHS Specialist is a full-time, hybrid (3 days/week onsite) role based at multiple pharmaceutical office sites in Middlesex and Mercer Counties (Central NJ). Under the direction of a senior EHS specialist or EHS manager, this specialist will collaborate with teams including site leadership, engineering, facilities, security, construction, first aid, crisis management to support the implementation and maintenance of environmental, health, safety, and sustainability programs at multiple client sites. Day-to-day tasks include conducting site inspections and risk assessments, monitoring compliance with EHS regulations and company policies, designing and implementing training programs, and documenting findings and corrective actions.
Required Qualifications
- 1-3 years of practical experience applying OSHA regulations in commercial or industrial settings.
- 1-3 years of practical experience applying USEPA and NJDEP regulations governing hazardous/non-hazardous/universal waste, air permitting, water, and wastewater.
- Mastery of Microsoft Office suite (Teams, Outlook, etc.) and use of digital platforms and data analytics to monitor performance, identify risks, and implement strategic improvements.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and clients ranging from top leadership to contractors and support staff.
- Experience with EHS program development, implementation, and review including hazard identification, risk assessment, and incident prevention initiatives.
- Ability to design and deliver effective safety training for diverse audiences ranging from staff to management.
- Ability to multitask across different sites, clients, and disciplines.
- Bachelor’s degree and/or certificates in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Familiarity with applicable federal, state, and local EHS regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA) and industry best practices.
- Strong analytical, documentation, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Completion of an OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 course.
- Ability to travel to/from multiple sites, some of which are inaccessible by mass transit, as scheduled.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification such as ASP, CSP, CIH, CHMM, or similar
- Experience in Learning Management System (LMS) administration
- Experience in construction safety or construction management
- Career experience in utilities, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, or logistics
- Completion of an OSHA 510 and/or OSHA 511 course
Compensation
This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with a 3-month probationary period. During the probationary period, hourly compensation is commensurate with experience. If hired, initial salary range is $75,000-$90,000.
