Overview
We are seeking compassionate and reliable Direct Care Staff to join our team at Atlas House, a Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Program (STRTP). In this role, you will provide supervision, guidance, and support to youth in a residential setting, ensuring their safety, structure, and well-being. You will work closely with residents to build positive relationships, support daily activities, and help them develop life skills in a trauma-informed, culturally sensitive environment. Direct Care Staff also play an important role in supporting youth with their mental health needs by modeling healthy coping strategies, providing emotional support, and collaborating with the treatment team to reinforce therapeutic goals.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide daily supervision, care, and protection of youth in a residential setting
- Support youth with group work and individual issues using trauma-informed practices
- Implement positive discipline and set healthy boundaries
- Assist youth in developing coping skills, social skills, and life skills
- Monitor and document youth progress, behaviors, and daily activities
- Report observations and make recommendations to the Facility Manager
- Ensure youth have access to core services, recreational activities, and therapeutic supports
- Build positive and supportive relationships with youth from diverse backgrounds
- Apply behavioral interventions and de-escalation strategies as needed
- Communicate effectively and collaborate with team members, families, and professionals
- Maintain structure, consistency, and safety within the home
- Uphold agency policies and procedures, including those related to personal property
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe facility and grounds
- Transport youth to school, appointments, and activities as assigned
- Provide patient care and support in accordance with individualized care plans.
- Administer medications as prescribed and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Engage clients in social activities and promote community involvement to enhance their social skills.
- Maintain a clean and safe living environment by performing light housekeeping duties.
- Provide companionship and emotional support to clients, fostering a nurturing environment.
- Document care provided and report any significant changes or concerns to the supervising staff.
Education and Experience:
Direct care staff shall meet at least ONE of the following qualifications:
- A Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree
- OR A valid Child Development Teaching Permit
- OR Demonstrate completion of 12 semester hours of Early Childhood Education, Adolescent Development, or Foster and Kinship Care Education, and have at least 100 hours of experience working with youth,
- OR A valid certificate as an Alcohol Counselor, Drug Counselor or Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and have at least 100 hours working with youth.
- OR A valid vocational training certificate, credential, or documentation demonstrating that experience as a trade journeyperson, who instructs youth in vocational skills plus at least 100 hours of experience working with youth as a mentor, athletic coach, tutor, counselor, or other relevant experience as determined by CDSS.
- OR Previous employment as a full-time staff member, or volunteer service at a group home, STRTP, or substance abuse treatment program for at least ONE year, or
- OR Relevant life experience in the child welfare, mental health, or juvenile justice systems as a consumer, mentor, or caregiver, or other relevant experience as determined by CDSS.
- Must clear a CCL, DOJ, and FBI fingerprint criminal background check.
- Must have a valid California Driver License and be insurable under the Agency Insurance carrier.
