What are the responsibilities and job description for the Direct Support Professional I position at RISE COMMUNITY SERVICES?
Direct Support Professional (DSP)
Make a Difference. Build Independence. Find Your Fit.
Full-Time & Part-Time Opportunities | RISE Community Services
Why You’ll Want to Work at RISE
You’re looking for more than your next job. You want work that matters, people you enjoy working with, and opportunities to learn, grow, and build your future.
At RISE, you'll receive paid training and opportunities for professional development and career growth. Full-time employees receive 100% employer-paid health insurance, dental and vision insurance, employer-paid life and short-term disability, paid holidays, vacation, sick and birthday time off, retirement matching, tuition reimbursement, and referral bonuses. Part-time employees receive paid vacation, paid training, tuition reimbursement, and referral bonuses.
And you don't have to stay in one area forever. Cross-training opportunities can allow you to learn different sides of RISE, build your skills, and discover where you fit best.
What You’ll Get to Own
As a DSP, you'll help individuals with disabilities build independence, make choices, develop skills, stay connected, and live meaningful lives.
Your day won't be spent doing everything for someone. Your job is to support people in doing as much as possible for themselves.
Depending on your interests and availability, there are three ways you could make an impact:
Residential — Support Everyday Life
You'll work alongside individuals in their homes, helping with daily routines, meals, personal care, medications, household responsibilities, hobbies, and community activities while promoting dignity and independence.
Day Program — Build Skills & Create Great Days
You'll help individuals participate in structured activities, build social and life skills, work toward vocational goals, enjoy outings, and develop greater independence.
Community Off-Site — Get Out Into the Community
You'll support individuals while they're out doing the things that make up everyday life—shopping, recreational activities, social events, and other community experiences—while encouraging independence and keeping safety at the center.
Interested in more than one? Great! We value employees who want to cross-train, learn different programs, and expand their skills.
You’ll Have the Opportunity to
Build meaningful relationships with the people you support
Help individuals develop greater independence and confidence
Support personal goals, daily living skills, activities, and community involvement
Encourage choice rather than making choices for someone
Learn how to follow individualized support and behavior plans
Complete documentation that helps the team provide consistent support
Learn new skills through paid training and hands-on experience
Cross-train in different RISE programs
Build experience that can prepare you for future opportunities and leadership roles
You May Be a Great Fit If You
Believe everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect
Are dependable—because people are counting on you
Have patience when something takes longer than expected
Can encourage someone without doing everything for them
Enjoy being active rather than sitting behind a desk all day
Can stay calm and make good decisions when plans change
Are comfortable helping with personal care when the position requires it
Can balance compassion with expectations and boundaries
Communicate well and work as part of a team
Are willing to learn—even if you've never worked as a DSP before
Want a job where the work you do has a purpose
What You’ll Need
You must be 18 or older, have a high school diploma or GED, pass required pre-employment screening, and complete required training. You'll also need a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Missouri Class E chauffeur's license within 14 days of hire.
This is an active, hands-on position. Depending on the program and individuals you support, you may assist with personal care, mobility and transfers, community activities, and lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds.
Experience is great. The right attitude matters, too. We're looking for dependable people who bring patience, empathy, good judgment, and a willingness to learn.
