Job Description
As a Data Architect, you will play a critical role in designing and implementing scalable data solutions that power analysis and visualization across public sector projects. Your primary focus will be on ingesting, transforming, and preparing complex data sets for use in reporting, analytics, and decision-making tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
You will develop robust data pipelines, architect efficient data storage and processing frameworks, and ensure the availability, accuracy, and integrity of data for analysis. This role requires deep technical expertise in modern data platforms, a strong understanding of data modeling and integration, and the ability to translate business requirements into scalable data solutions. This is a contingent role.
As the Data Architect, your core responsibilities will include:
- ETL Planning and Implementation: Develop and implement comprehensive ETL plans aligned with the business objectives. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and provide guidance on data-related projects (e.g., dashboard development), including estimates of level of effort and planning of ETL work so that it may be completed on schedule.
- Data Modeling and Design: Design and implement robust, scalable, and efficient data models that meet business requirements. Ensure the integrity, security, and performance of data architecture through effective design principles and best practices.
- Data Integration and Migration: Oversee the integration of data from various sources into a unified and coherent architecture. Lead data migration efforts, ensuring seamless transition and minimal disruption to business operations.
- Metadata Management: Establish and maintain a comprehensive metadata management framework. Define and implement standards for metadata to ensure data quality, lineage, and accessibility.
- Data Governance and Compliance: Develop and enforce data governance policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and industry standards.
- Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with business stakeholders, data scientists, and IT teams to understand data needs and requirements. Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and contribute to a data-driven culture within the organization.
- Performance Optimization: Monitor and optimize the performance of databases and data infrastructure. Troubleshoot, document, and resolve issues related to data architecture, ensuring high availability and reliability.
- Documentation Maintenance: Rigorously document data architectures, models, and ETL processes, ensuring clarity and accessibility for both technical teams and business stakeholders.
What You’ll Need to Succeed:
Basic Qualifications:
- 3 years using Python, SQL, and/or Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS)
- Experience optimizing database solutions for scalability, performance, and security
- Knowledge of data migration strategies from legacy systems to new solutions
- Experience working with various AWS services such as S3, RedShift, ECS, ECR, CloudFormation, Lambda, CloudWatch, EventBridge, etc
- Experience working with Microsoft technologies (e.g., Azure SQL, Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, Fabric)
- Experience working with Docker, dbt, Pydantic, and/or CDK
- Experience working on Analytics and Business Intelligence focused initiatives, preferably in a consulting capacity
- Experience working with backend databases
- Experience working with version control repositories (e.g., GitHub, Azure DevOps) and task management software (e.g., Jira)
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to translate perceived needs into technical requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology or STEM-related discipline
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with Python data science libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, Matplotlib, etc.
- Familiarity with CI/CD processes (e.g., CodePipeline or GitHub Actions) and setting up pre-commit hooks and/or CI/CD testing
- Familiarity designing and building APIs
- Experience working with public sector data (expenditures, healthcare, etc.,)
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology or STEM-related discipline

• Paid Time Off (PTO) and holidays: You will be eligible for three weeks of PTO (15 days) with an additional PTO based on service time as well as 12 paid holidays each year.
