About The Role

The primary purpose of Electrical and Instrumentation Trainer/Instructor will be to lead the four-year Electrical Apprenticeship program for the Boron operations. The role will develop and implement training programs aligned with the National Center for Construction Education & Research program (NCCER), to engage and develop skills and abilities of apprentices. The role will also be the point of contact for all training activities associated with the electrical team and help support the coordination of training programs on site.

The ideal candidate will have the unique ability to (a) create and administer a technical training program from beginning to end, (b) competence and confidence as a leader of the electrical training, and (c) the ability to define training opportunities and recommend solutions for improvement.

Accountabilities include

  • Instruct and engage learners with various learning styles in a classroom, shop, and operational setting
  • Monitor students’ progress against agreed targets, using appropriate assessment tools and feedback
  • Identify and recommend appropriate solutions to drive people development and improvement
  • Work with other trainers to improve training systems and process across the business
  • Support site wide induction and safety training programs and activities including supporting training on forklift, aerial lift, bobcats and other equipment
  • Mentor and guide new and employees and apprentices in all aspects of the training program and work in the field
  • Support leadership development programs and engage with the broader Rio Tinto learning community
  • Identifying gaps in employee development and recommend solutions to close those gaps

What You’ll Bring

  • Recognized safety leader with an HSE-focused mindset that prioritizes the safety and well-being of team members and the site as a whole
  • Minimum Experience at a Journey or 1st class electrical technician level with considerable practical experience in the field
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to take the apprentices in the field connect classroom learning with demonstrated practical applications
  • Ability and willingness to obtain NCCER instructor certification.
  • Experience teaching hybrid courses and demonstrated proficiency and experience in using instruction technologies and learning management systems.
  • Ability to present technical topics in an engaging way that invites participation helps learners apply the information in a practical way
  • Working knowledge of industry standard (ADDIE) instructional design practices, IEEE, NFPA70E & B, and NEC.
