In this role, you will manage day-to-day operations and have oversight of key vendor partnerships, providing operational guidance, advice, and training support, and serving as a trusted advisor to the People community.

Our Kennecott mine is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation, including a concentrator, smelter, and refinery, located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States. We produce copper, precious metals including gold and silver, molybdenum, and sulfuric acid. Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich ore body of the Bingham Canyon Mine since 1903 and is one of the top producing mines in the world, comprising approximately 11 percent of U.S. annual copper production.

Supporting the broader Benefits Area of Expertise, in this exciting role, you will
- Contribute to the design, continuous improvement and delivery of benefits programs for the region.
- Manage day-to-day key vendor partnerships, including end-to-end governance, risk and financial processes.
- Work closely with Procurement, Finance, Legal, Tax, IS&T and Ethics & Integrity teams to manage vendors and ensure the provision of services by vendors (where applicable) meet or exceed expectations, agreed performance targets and operate within Rio Tinto frameworks and risk tolerance;
- Provide support to American business units by providing internal expert advice.
- Be recognised as a trusted advisor for all key stakeholders;
- Attend and provide support to relevant Committee and Trustee board meetings;
- Ensure administration, governance, compliance and risk management frameworks relevant to all plans always remain appropriate;
- Build and maintain mutually beneficial stakeholder relationships;
- Leverage knowledge to understand the local context and provide support for continuous improvement;
- Provide input into and update benefit standards, policies and reporting as necessary;
- Maintain an excellent awareness and knowledge of market practice, trends, insights and innovation in all areas of benefits, health & risk insurance and pensions;
- Provide operational support and training to all relevant operational, support and services teams; and
- Support the People community, business units and leaders with global initiatives and projects.
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline
- 5 years of experience supporting U.S. Benefits programs (e.g., health, retirement, wellness, leaves), ideally within a large or complex organization
- Solid understanding of U.S. benefits regulations and compliance
- Strong experience working with HR data, benefits reporting, and analytics, with advanced proficiency in Excel
- Strong organizational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver with attention to detail
- Proven stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex data and benefits topics clearly
- Strong focus on care for people, health and safety and environment;
- The courage to challenge, and curiosity to continuously improve.
