Construction Cost Estimating Intern

RINA is currently recruiting for a Construction Cost Estimating Intern to join its office in Boston, MA or Chicago, IL within the North America Infrastructure & Mobility Division.

Mission

The Intern will work in collaboration with the Supervisor in the daily activities of Construction Cost Estimating. This individual should be comfortable working cross-functionally with the ability to coordinate amongst team members. The Intern will assist multiple Cost Estimators with developing quantity take-offs from engineering plans. The successful candidate should be detail oriented. Experience reading engineering plans and specifications a plus.

Key Accountabilities

• Assists Supervisor and Senior Cost Estimators to develop construction cost estimates for transportation, transit, heavy civil, and other infrastructure projects; develop cost estimates during all stages of design, from conceptual level to bid documents
• Reviews project drawings and specifications
• Learn about multiple estimating methodologies, including analogous, parametric, and bottom-up techniques
• Update cost estimating databases in software programs such as HCSS Heavy Bid, and others
• Coordinate with material suppliers to obtain pricing
• May participate in risk analysis and value engineering studies, as applicable
• Coordinate with Scheduling team to develop CPM Schedules
• Other duties as assigned
  
  

Qualifications

• Pursuing an undergraduate or associate’s degree in civil engineering, construction management or engineering technology
• Previous internship or related experience preferred
• Demonstrates technical and professional engineering skills commensurate with years of experience
• Ability to be proactive and collaborative with project team members, client representatives, contractors, review/permit agencies and others as appropriate
• Strong computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Office and construction documentation
• Strong technical written and verbal communications skills
• Ability to clearly communicate concepts and ideas
• Self-starter who can work independently and part of a multi-discipline team
