Position Overview
The Plumbing Designer is responsible for developing detailed plumbing system layouts and construction drawings for residential, multifamily, and commercial building projects. This role works closely with engineers, project managers, and field teams to design plumbing systems that are efficient, code-compliant, and constructible.
The Plumbing Designer supports projects from concept through construction by producing accurate design documents and coordinating plumbing systems with other building systems including HVAC and fire protection.
Key Responsibilities
Develop plumbing system designs and construction drawings for residential, multifamily, and commercial projects.
Prepare detailed plans, schematics, and layouts for domestic water, sanitary, and storm drainage systems.
Utilize design software such as AutoCAD and Revit to produce construction-ready drawings and models.
Coordinate plumbing layouts with architectural, structural, HVAC, and fire protection systems.
Review project plans and specifications to ensure compliance with local codes and industry standards.
Assist with equipment selection, pipe sizing, and system layout development.
Support project managers and engineers with design revisions, documentation, and coordination during construction.
Participate in design coordination meetings with internal teams, builders, and consultants.
Assist with value engineering efforts to improve efficiency and reduce project costs.
Provide technical support to field teams by responding to design-related questions and resolving layout issues.
Qualifications
2–5 years of experience in plumbing design or mechanical design within the construction industry.
Experience designing plumbing systems for residential, multifamily, or commercial construction projects.
Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design software.
Strong understanding of plumbing system layouts, piping systems, and construction documentation.
Knowledge of plumbing codes, standards, and best practices.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with mechanical or plumbing contractors.
Familiarity with integrated building systems including plumbing, HVAC, and fire protection.
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Drafting, Construction Technology, or a related field.
Experience supporting large residential communities, multifamily housing developments, or commercial projects.
