Position Overview
The Mechanical Estimator – HVAC is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for HVAC and mechanical construction projects, including residential, multifamily, and commercial developments. This role supports preconstruction efforts by analyzing plans and specifications, developing detailed takeoffs, and coordinating with internal teams and subcontractors.
The Estimator plays a key role in delivering cost-effective solutions and supporting projects that integrate HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems under a single coordinated scope, helping streamline project delivery and improve efficiency.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare detailed cost estimates for HVAC systems, including ductwork, equipment, piping, and controls.

Analyze construction drawings, specifications, and project documents to perform accurate quantity takeoffs.

Develop conceptual, schematic, and final estimates based on project phase.

Solicit, review, and level subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure complete scope coverage.

Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and field teams to validate constructability and project approach.

Identify cost risks, scope gaps, and value engineering opportunities to improve project outcomes.

Assist in preparing bid proposals, budgets, and scope summaries.

Support preconstruction efforts by evaluating system options and recommending cost-effective solutions.

Maintain and update cost databases, labor productivity rates, and historical pricing.

Participate in pre-bid meetings, site walks, and coordination meetings as needed.
Qualifications

5–10 years of experience estimating HVAC or mechanical construction projects.

Experience working for a mechanical contractor or general contractor.

Strong understanding of HVAC systems, including equipment selection, duct distribution, and system layouts.

Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and mechanical plans.

Experience performing detailed quantity takeoffs and cost analysis.

Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to manage multiple estimates and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience estimating multifamily, residential, or commercial HVAC projects.

Familiarity with integrated systems including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection.

Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software such as Bluebeam, Trimble, FastPIPE, or similar tools.
