Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Electro-Mechanical Technician with experience in food or beverage manufacturing to support production operations. This is a more advanced role than a traditional maintenance mechanic, requiring strong expertise in electrical systems, PLC troubleshooting, and automated equipment.
This position is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing complex production equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime. The ideal candidate has a strong background in both electrical and mechanical systems, can read and interpret schematics, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced, regulated manufacturing environment.
Candidates will be tested on their electrical knowledge and troubleshooting abilities as part of the hiring process.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, PLC-controlled, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems on production equipment.
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to PLCs, sensors, motors, drives, and control systems.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals.
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on processing and packaging equipment including conveyors, mixers, ovens, fillers, and automated systems.
- Work with 480V and lower voltage electrical systems, ensuring safe troubleshooting and repairs.
- Support installation, setup, and commissioning of new equipment and system upgrades.
- Collaborate with production and engineering teams to identify root causes of equipment failures and implement long-term solutions.
- Utilize diagnostic tools such as multimeters, megohmmeters, and other electrical testing equipment.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records in CMMS, documenting repairs, parts used, and work performed.
- Ensure all work complies with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), food safety standards, and plant safety policies.
- Assist in training operators and junior technicians on equipment troubleshooting and basic maintenance practices.
- Work efficiently in cold or refrigerated environments as required.
Qualifications
- 6 years of experience in electro-mechanical maintenance within food or beverage manufacturing.
- Strong experience troubleshooting PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar systems).
- Advanced knowledge of electrical systems, controls, motors, drives, and automation equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Experience working with high-voltage systems (480V preferred).
- Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings, gearboxes, and conveyors.
- Experience with automated production and packaging equipment.
- Familiarity with CMMS systems and preventive maintenance programs.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to work various shifts, weekends, and overtime as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with VFDs, servo motors, and industrial automation systems.
- Certification or technical training in electrical or industrial maintenance.
- Experience in high-speed food production or packaging environments.
- Welding, fabrication, or additional technical skills are a plus.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to work in refrigerated or cold storage environments for extended periods.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Exposure to wet, noisy, and fast-paced production environments.
- Must follow all safety protocols, PPE requirements, and food safety standards.
