SUMMARY: Under general supervision of the Central Laundry Manager, operates vehicles intra and interstate to pick up and deliver materials and supplies. Must possess a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) in order to operate Brown University Health leased/owned motor vehicles requiring CDL. The core Success Factors include: Instill Trust and Value Differences Patient and Community Focus and Collaborate RESPONSIBILITIES: Makes pickups and deliveries at affiliate sites. Loads and unloads clean, soiled textiles, materials and supplies and delivers them to locations designated by supervisor. Ensures all deliveries are signed for by site receiving area or unit. Washes interior of vehicle after unloading soiled load prior to loading clean loads. Ensures the truck is loaded properly and load in secured to prevent shifting in transport. Loads and unloads truck carefully to prevent damage to the interior of truck, supply carts or the items being transported. Prepares and submits daily Driver 's Vehicle Inspection Report as required by the Department of Transportation. Ensures that vehicles are properly fueled and tires correctly inflated at start of shift. Refuels and re-inflates as needed. Schedules maintenance of vehicles and routinely checks oil, water, tires, tail gate operation and cleanliness of vehicles. Reports any suspected mechanical problems to the supervisor. Delivers and picks up vehicle for maintenance as directed. Provides training and orientation of routine, schedules, delivery and pickup points, etc., for new drivers. In case of accident, completes necessary forms (i.e., accident reports, insurance forms, etc.) and submits to the supervisor in accordance with the Brown University Health 's Fleet Risk Control Policy and procedures. Attends and completes annual mandatory safety management education and training on all handling equipment. Participates in departmental and interdepartmental quality improvement activities. Loads and unloads vehicles and performs other assigned duties within department operations such as Laundry Aide, etc., when not driving. Drivers are prohibited from carrying unauthorized materials and/or passengers. Such action is subject6 to disciplinary action. Performs all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established department policy and the Brown University Health Fleet Risk Control Policy and procedures. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: BASIC KNOWLEDGE: High School level of knowledge with the ability to read, write, understand and speak English and to perform basic arithmetic calculations in order to verify shipments, complete charge information, maintain files and perform stock reconciliation 's. Must possess a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL). The manual and motor skills needed to drive, park and operate CDL rated vehicles in accordance to licensing standards of the States Department of Motor Vehicles. Analytical ability in order to read road maps and determine shortest appropriate driving routes. Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills in order to exchange information with site personnel. Must have a good driving record, meet and maintain the appropriate and valid drivers license in order to operate motor vehicles as required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations in accordance with the Brown University Health Fleet Risk Control Policy. EXPERIENCE: Three to six months of related or on-the-job experience. WORK ENVIRONEMTNT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMNTS: Vehicles have manual transmissions, air brakes, power steering and power lift gate. Exposed to seasonal variations in weather, including temperature extremes and road conditions when traveling. Considerable standing, walking, lifting and pushing in order to unload, store and distribute materials or when performing other assigned duties. May be exposed to the cold and heat when unloading bulk supplies on loading dock. Physical ability to maneuver wheeled carts and to operate power lift gate.
