Job Description:
The Lease Operator/Pumper is responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, and monitoring of oil and gas production facilities and equipment. This position ensures the safe and efficient production of hydrocarbons from assigned lease sites while maintaining compliance with regulatory, environmental, and safety requirements. The Lease Operator/Pumper conducts routine inspections, performs minor repairs, collects production data, and maintains accurate records of all lease activities.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor and operate oil and gas wells, tank batteries, and production equipment on assigned leases
- Conduct daily inspections of wells, pumping units, separators, tanks, and associated production equipment
- Check and record oil and gas production volumes, pressures, temperatures, and fluid levels
- Gauge tanks and verify oil inventory; coordinate with pipeline operators and truck drivers for product sales
- Start, stop, and adjust pumping units and other production equipment to optimize well performance
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance on production equipment including pumping units, motors, and surface equipment
- Monitor and adjust chemical injection systems for corrosion, scale, and paraffin control
- Identify and report equipment failures, abnormal conditions, and safety hazards
- Maintain lease roads, fences, signs, and general housekeeping of lease sites
- Collect water samples and monitor water disposal operations
- Report production issues, equipment problems, and abnormal well behavior to supervisor
- Ensure compliance with all environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements
- Maintain accurate daily production reports and operational records
- Respond to after-hours emergencies and alarms as needed
- Perform basic troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical equipment
- Monitor for leaks, spills, and environmental concerns; report and respond appropriately
Skills and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
- Knowledge of oil and gas production equipment and operations
- Ability to read and interpret gauges, meters, and basic instrumentation
- Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to perform minor equipment repairs
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in recordkeeping
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Basic computer skills for data entry and reporting
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Physical ability to climb, lift up to 50 lbs, and perform manual labor
- Willingness to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and on-call duties
- H2S certification or ability to obtain upon hire
- OSHA safety training preferred
- Knowledge of environmental and safety regulations preferred
- Basic understanding of lease operations, pumping units, and surface equipment
