Facilities Process Chemical Engineer

Location: Boise, ID

Position Type: On-Site / Hybrid

Schedule: Normally 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, with some flexibility


Position Overview

Jacobs is seeking an Intermediate/Associate Process Chemical Engineer to support projects involving state-of-the-art industrial and commercial facilities. This role will work closely with client stakeholders, contractors, equipment manufacturers, and multidisciplinary design teams to develop engineering designs and construction documents for complex manufacturing facilities.

The engineer will support the design and integration of:

  • Process chemical systems
  • Process mechanical systems
  • Wet and dry piping
  • Gas distribution systems
  • Ultrapure water systems
  • Wastewater and waste drain systems
  • Exhaust systems
  • Plumbing
  • Pumps and tank storage
  • Manufacturing tool installations
  • Facility infrastructure upgrades

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop design requirements and construction documents for:
  • Complex manufacturing tool installations
  • Tenant improvements
  • Core facility infrastructure upgrades
  • Perform design and layout of:
  • Wet and dry piping
  • Process chemical piping
  • Process gases
  • Process mechanical systems
  • Equipment and components
  • Support retrofit designs for existing building systems to accommodate new manufacturing tools.
  • Perform engineering calculations, equipment/component sizing, selection, and specifications.
  • Design and oversee piping and equipment associated with:
  • Process mechanical systems
  • Water
  • Wastewater
  • Process chemicals
  • Process gases
  • Develop utility requirement documents for next-generation and prototype manufacturing tools.
  • Work closely with:
  • Jacobs multidisciplinary design teams
  • Client equipment owners
  • Client stakeholders
  • Equipment manufacturers
  • Contractors
  • Interact directly with clients and contractors throughout the design and construction process.
  • Provide construction-phase support, including:
  • RFI responses
  • Submittal reviews
  • On-site construction support
  • Equipment/system integration
  • Participate in the design, development, application, evaluation, recommendation, and specification of engineered systems and products.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in:
  • Chemical Engineering, or
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Degree must be from an ABET-accredited university.
  • 3 years of practical facilities engineering experience, including experience with:
  • Ultrapure water
  • Chemical distribution
  • Gas distribution
  • Process piping
  • Exhaust systems
  • Plumbing
  • Waste drains
  • Pumps
  • Tank storage/design
  • Related chemical/mechanical facility systems
  • 3 years of experience with design project delivery processes.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within:
  • Multidisciplinary teams
  • Cross-functional teams
  • Client-facing environments
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Must be local to Boise, ID, or willing to relocate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience with complex semiconductor manufacturing tools, including:
  • Manufacturing
  • Installation
  • Use within cleanroom environments
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Forward-thinking mindset with an interest in learning and implementing best practices.
  • Ability to learn quickly and expand technical knowledge.
  • Interest/passion for buildings and construction.
  • 3 years of field experience.
  • EIT or PE license.

Location & Work Requirements

  • Position is considered ON-SITE/HYBRID.
  • Candidate must be willing to work from the client site in Boise, ID and/or Jacobs' local office.
  • Candidate will generally be required to commute to the site or Jacobs office twice per week during normal business hours.
  • Typical working hours are 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, with some flexibility depending on site requirements and employee preference.
  • Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates.

Field & Physical Requirements

The position requires regular field visits and walks at an active construction site.

Candidate must be able to:

  • Walk long distances.
  • Sit and stand for extended periods.
  • Bend, stoop, and twist.
  • Crawl in certain areas.
  • Climb ladders.
  • Work on catwalks.
  • Work in confined/small spaces.
  • Lift and carry up to 25 lbs.

Employment Requirements

  • Must successfully complete a background check.
  • Must successfully complete a drug screen.
  • Must be fully authorized to work for any client in the United States.
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • Jacobs will not sponsor or continue a visa for this role.
