What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Program Instructor position at Ridgewood YMCA?
YMCA Camp Bernie is located in Port Murray, NJ. We host groups for Outdoor Education which include nature based classes (stream ecology, forest ecology, nature appreciation, wilderness survival) adventure programming (team building, high ropes elements, archery, canoeing, raft building), as well as creative based activities (sensory awareness, candle making, arts and crafts, tie-dye.) Each day is different and allows you to facilitate a closeness between our guests and the nature we are surrounded by. Instructors are trained to facilitate all of our daytime, evening, and meal time activity options.
Lead instructors have additional responsibilities as well including:
Assisting in care of the animals in the nature lodge
Hosting groups visiting with us (meeting with the group leader upon arrival to confirm number of attendees and schedule, complete billing paperwork with the group leader, check in with the group leader during the trip to ensure good customer service)
Reimagine and redo the layout of a program space to increase functionality / visual appeal
Act as a leader and example to the rest of the Outdoor Education team
All staff will have the opportunity to:
Live on site, shared staff housing
Have meals provided when groups are present
Obtain a CPR and First Aid Certification (Adult and Pediatric)
Obtain a USA Archery Certification Level 1
Obtain documentation of hours toward ACCT certifications, as requested
Participate in mandatory, paid on site training
Attendance to an Outdoor Education conference
