Job Overview:
The overall purpose of the Resident Associate is to provide personal care to residents in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort.
General Responsibilities:
- Assists residents in performing daily personal care as requested in a manner consistent with Ridgecrest’s policies and procedures.
- Follows the service plan directed per resident cares for grooming, bathing, toileting, oral care, communication, locomotion, hearing, transportation.
- Daily resident care includes but is not limited to the following:
- Bathing/Showering
- Dressing
- Grooming
- Oral care
- Incontinent care
- Assists with prosthesis, back braces and supports
- Ambulation/mobility
- Personal laundry
- Light housekeeping
- Light meal preparation
- Dishwashing
- Assistance with dining
- Tray service to rooms
- Promotes and supports the greatest possible degree of independence for residents.
- Advises the nurse of changes in the resident’s status.
- Contributes knowledge of each resident’s condition to the resident assessment and service plan.
- Runs errands within the facility.
- Observes the reports on resident’s conditions and documents observations as required.
- Able to complete an incident report if an accident and/or a fall occurs.
- Promotes a safe and clean environment.
- Complies with requirements of procedures for assistance with safe lifting and/or safe transfer of residents per established policies and procedures.
- Assures that equipment is clean and functional.
- Functions within the constraints of education/training/legal limits on actions and consults with the nurse as necessary.
- Is assigned responsibility/authority for decisions specific to assigned functions, but may seek additional direction from the nurse, or the AL Director as appropriate.
- Working contacts include residents, resident’s families, medical professionals, and other facility staff.
- Demonstrates competency in skills mandated by required education and training.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
- High School graduate or GED equivalent.
- Functional literacy in English.
- Complete familiarity with the duties of a certified nursing assistant and certified medication aide is required.
Skills/Aptitude:
- Must possess patience, tact, enthusiasm, and a cheerful disposition.
- Highly developed observation skills are desirable.
- Must possess the mental and physical capabilities to fulfill the duties of this position.
- Must possess the knowledge, skill, and empathy necessary to work with geriatric residents and their families.
- Must possess problem-solving skills.
- Must be able to continuously articulate clearly and precisely and communicate with persons of varying backgrounds.

Physical Requirements:
- Frequently climbs stairs.
- Occasionally reaches at or above the shoulder height.
- Occasionally assists with lifting, standing, and transferring residents weighting 75-250 pounds.
- Frequently stoops, bends, walks, and stands for extended periods of time.
- Frequently lift and carries equipment, supplies and laundry weighing less than 50 pounds.
- Manual dexterity required to perform simple manipulative tasks.
- Must be adequately able to detect smells.
- Ability to transfer, lift, move and turn a resident to or from a bed, wheelchair, toilet, bathtub, and shower and occasionally the floor. Requires varying degrees of pushing, pulling, and lifting due to the differences in resident weights which could be over 100 lbs.
- Ability to safely assist a resident with all ADL’s, transfers and ambulation requiring good hand/eye coordination, steadiness, and the ability to move about in tight spaces, between objects, equipment, and furniture.
Working Conditions (may add additional conditions specific to defined work location):
- Exposure to blood, body tissue and other potentially infectious fluids.
- Exposure to sudden fluctuations in temperature.
- Exposure to dust, bodily injury, loud or unpleasant noise and odors.
