The Head of School will carry out RA’s broad educational mission and policies as established by the Board of Directors

· Embrace and champion RA’s mission

· Maintain licensing and accreditation requirements and compliance with all regulating agencies

· Lead and manage faculty and staff to continue and enhance quality education and care

· Cultivate effective relationships with all constituents, including students, families, faculty, staff, board of directors, community members and key stakeholders

· Demonstrate accountability for the operating budget and financial stability of RA

· Drive enrollment growth and student retention in all programs

· Foster a culturally and socio-economically diverse population

· Manage day-to-day operations of RA

Specific responsibilities for this position fall into 3 categories: Leadership, Program and Operations, and Community

I. Leadership
· Maintains an effective relationship with the Board of Directors. Works closely with Board of Directors on matters affecting the mission, strategic planning and finances, and is able to communicate relevant updates in an efficient and timely manner.

· Develops and leads the faculty and staff of RA. Promotes effective communication and positive relationships within the organization and aims to produce smooth day-to-day internal operations.

· Promote constructive relationships between students, faculty and administrators, while recognizing the importance of individual development. Creates a collaborative atmosphere and encourages team building and strategic planning among faculty and staff.

· Hire, supervise, mentor, and evaluate teaching and support staff as needed.

· Conduct written evaluations of staff.

· Lead and facilitate staff meetings to guide and support staff.

· Serves as liaison between teachers and parents to resolve classroom issues.

· Maintains school discipline policy in a consistent and respectful manner.

II. Program and Operations

· Evaluates and ensures RA meets and exceeds all regulatory requirements and pursues the highest level of quality care and Montessori education. Works with faculty and staff to identify curriculum needs and program support.

· Effectively assesses, manages and mitigates risks that will negatively impact the mission of the school. Recommends responses to regulatory and legislative actions that mitigate potential impacts.

· Defines faculty and staff positions needed to implement RA’s programs and recruits highly effective staff. Establishes productive working conditions, discipline, training and development of all staff. Determines standards and takes appropriate steps to measure and maintain reasonable performance and professional growth among all employees; dismisses those who fail to meet the standards.

· Manages day-to-day operations at RA. Oversees daily operations of the school and ensures a safe and friendly environment. Attends to tasks and responsibilities associated with successful operation of the school (e.g. communication, security, maintenance) on an as-needed and sometimes hands-on capacity. Manages staff and childcare scheduling. Oversees overall program planning.

· Coordinates internal and external school communications.

· Oversees and coordinates enrollment of students.

· Develop specific operations, goals and objectives to implement the strategic goals that have been mutually established with the Board.

· Oversee student evaluation and implement student assessment.

· Ensure that the school is in compliance with all applicable government laws and regulations.

III. Community
· Serves as a primary spokesperson for RA and promote its programs to the public. Supports meaningful alumni, parent, past-parent and greater community participation in events that aid and support the goals of RA.

· Effectively communicates the mission of RA, as well as its achievements, progress, and milestones to the parents/families, constituents, and general public.

· Oversee general marketing of RA. Regularly maintains and updates the website and social media channels of RA and develops material for distribution in the community (e.g. flyers, brochures). Attends community events as a representative of RA, when applicable.

Job Requirements
· Required Education: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, including 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 2 years of experience with children.

· Preferred Education/Experience: PA Teaching Certificate (Public or Private). Montessori credential and/or experience. Independent school administration. Non-profit management.

· Knowledge: Understanding of the academic, fiscal, social and advocacy responsibilities of a non-profit center and school.

· Montessori-based curriculum knowledge and program development a plus, or a willingness to learn the Montessori Method of Education. Business operational knowledge including leadership, management and budget. Customer relations (children, parents, community) and community building. Experience with state licensing and accreditation requirements.

· Skills/Competencies: Able to manage the vision and purpose of Montessori education philosophy, while enhancing the diversity and inclusion of thought, experience and cultures within an educational setting. Strong business acumen with ability to make decisions and positively influence the customer experience. Effective leadership that will motivate the various constituencies to be strong stakeholders. High sense of integrity with ability to maintain composure and relate well to individuals of all levels, experiences, and backgrounds. Able to effectively manage conflict, set priorities and inform/communicate with proper constituents.

· PA Child Abuse Clearance

· Mandating Reporting Certificate
