Montessori Classroom — Assistant Group Supervisor (AGS)
Richland Academy is hiring an Assistant Group Supervisor for the 2026–2027 school year. Position begins in August.
Under PA Department of Human Services regulations (55 Pa. Code § 3270.36), the Assistant Group Supervisor is a specific staff qualification level with defined responsibilities beyond a general classroom aide.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the implementation of daily program activities under the guidance of the Group Supervisor, Program Director(s), and Head of School.
- Coordinate daily activities and supervise Aides in the absence of the Group Supervisor.
- Foster a positive and collaborative learning environment where the unique needs of all children are met.
- Be patient and caring with all children.
- Attend required staff meetings and trainings.
- Assist in preparing materials to support curricular areas.
- Meet Department of Human Services requirements for twelve annual hours of Continuing Education.
- Assist with other tasks as deemed necessary by the Group Supervisor, Program Director(s), or Head of School.
REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must meet the PA DHS qualification standard for Assistant Group Supervisor (55 Pa. Code § 3270.36(b)) — a high school diploma or GED plus one of the following:
- 30 college credit hours from an accredited institution in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or the human services field; or
- 600 hours of approved secondary-level child care training (per § 3270.31(c)); or
- 15 college credit hours in a related field listed above, plus 1 year of experience with children; or
- Completion of an approved postsecondary training curriculum (per § 3270.31(c)); or
- 2 years of experience with children (minimum of 2,500 hours, can be non-contiguous)
Additional requirements:
- Good verbal communication skills
- Willingness to learn and apply the Montessori method
- Have a physical and be physically able to work with children
- Able to interact with people of diverse cultural backgrounds
- Must have own personal means of transportation or access to public transportation
*Please note that pay depends on experience and qualifications and starts at $13.00.
Must be able to pass the following clearances:
- Report of criminal history from the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP)
- Child Abuse History Clearance from the Department of Human Services (Child Abuse)
- Fingerprint-based federal criminal history submitted through the Pennsylvania State Police or its authorized agent (FBI)
- A verification letter confirming name search results on the National Crime Information Center's National Sex Offender Registry (NSOR)
