The Richfield Public School District is currently accepting applications for a Garage Supervisor / Mechanic. This role will oversee and coordinate work of all garage mechanics in addition to maintaining and repairing all motor vehicles, transportation equipment and all motorized maintenance equipment (e.g. mowers, snow blowers, tractors, etc.) owned by the District, based on priority and/or seasonal considerations, to help ensure all vehicles and equipment are kept in a safe, ready-to-use and reliable condition.
Qualifications
You must have a least two years of experience in providing clear, consistent work direction to other mechanics in a comparable garage setting. The ideal candidate will also have knowledge of of applicable Federal and State school bus safety regulations and the ability to maintain the District's fleet that consistently complies with those regulations. The candidate should have the ability to secure and maintain the appropriate school bus licensure. In addition, successful candidates will have experience working in a diverse community and be passionate about advancing our equity, diversity, and inclusion work.
Pay and Benefits

Key Job Responsibilities
- Develops and maintains a current knowledge of the District's policies, protocols and procedures that apply to this position so that work responsibilities can be performed purposefully, confidently and independently within the position authority and responsibility parameters.
- Develops and maintains collaborative work relationships that contribute to a pleasant and productive workplace.
- Establishes a work schedule for the garage based on the current backlogs, if any, and priority and/or seasonal considerations.
- Communicates established work schedules to Garage Mechanics and clarifies any questions regarding completion or priority of the work.
- Inventories stock items based on repair histories and orders supplies and repair parts as needed according to established District policies and procedures covering procurement for garage supplies and parts.
- Participates in the formulation of specifications for transportation equipment as established by State of Minnesota transportation regulations.
- Participates in the development, refinement, communication and implementation of effective preventive maintenance schedules and also vehicle / equipment replacement plans.
- Keeps the Supervisor promptly informed of problems and issues that need immediate attention at that level.
- Inspects and examines vehicles for signs of wear and tear (including brakes, hoses, springs, engines, radiators, oil and fluid levels, and any other key operating parts) according to the District’s established service and preventive maintenance schedules.
- Rebuilds transmissions and replaces malfunctioning equipment and/or parts in a manner that returns vehicles and equipment to service as quickly as possible with no loss of safety or reliability.
- Follows schedules of maintenance for all District vehicles.
- Maintains cost records on all work performed so that such information is readily available for analysis and decisions related to changes in the District’s preventive maintenance programs and/ vehicle / equipment replacement schedules.
- Instructs drivers of District vehicles on general care and operation of a vehicle, the important pre-trip steps that should be followed, and the importance of promptly reporting all operating problems.
- May perform responsibilities of a school bus driver due to absences and need for route coverage.
