RN Med-Surg Unit (Night Shift)

Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct and indirect patient care in the medical-surgical setting in accordance with the Louisiana Nurse Practice Act. The RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care while working collaboratively with physicians and the multidisciplinary team. The RN must be flexible and resourceful to meet the needs of diverse patient populations with limited specialty support.

Responsibilities:

· Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized care plans.

· Administer medications and treatments as prescribed and monitor for adverse effects.

· Provide bedside nursing care, including IV therapy, wound care, and post-operative care.

· Evaluate patient responses to care and adjust nursing interventions as needed.

· Document all aspects of patient care accurately and timely in the electronic health record (EHR).

· Educate patients and families on diagnosis, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.

· Coordinate care and collaborate with physicians, specialists, and support staff.

· Supervise and delegate tasks to LPNs, Nurse Techs, and CNAs as appropriate.

· Ensure compliance with infection control, safety protocols, and hospital policies.

· Respond to medical emergencies and participate in code situations.

· Assist with admissions, discharges, and patient transfers, including appropriate hand-offs.

· Actively participates in all quality assurance, performance improvement activities.

· Operate standard office equipment, including computers, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.

Requirement:

Education & Training:

· Graduate of an accredited nursing program; Associate or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ASN or BSN).

· Current, unencumbered RN license in the state of Louisiana.

· Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

· Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred or required within 6 months of hire.
