Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Weld Shop Lead to oversee daily welding operations, manage shop personnel, and ensure all work meets strict quality standards. This role requires proven leadership experience and a strong background in quality control within a steel fabrication environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise welders and shop personnel to meet production schedules
- Perform and enforce quality control checks on all welded assemblies
- Interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and weld symbols to guide production
- Coordinate workflow, assign tasks, and monitor progress to meet deadlines
- Train, mentor, and evaluate welding staff to maintain high performance
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures and company standards
- Work closely with project managers and fabrication teams to resolve issues
- Maintain organized documentation related to weld quality and inspections
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Weld Shop Lead or similar leadership role (required)
- Strong background in quality control/inspection for welded steel fabrication (required)
- Extensive welding experience (FCAW preferred; additional processes a plus)
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and specifications
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail and commitment to workmanship quality
- Dependable, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities
Preferred (Not Required)
- AWS certifications or welding inspector credentials
- Experience with miscellaneous metals (stairs, railings, embeds, etc.)
- Familiarity with shop production tracking or QA documentation systems
