We are currently seeking a Steel Primer to join our team. If you have experience in surface preparation, priming, and working in a steel fabrication environment, this job could be for you.
Job Responsibilities:
- Prepare structural steel and steel stair components for painting, including cleaning, grinding, and surface preparation.
- Apply industrial-grade primers to fabricated steel parts using spray, brush, or roller methods.
- Inspect surfaces to ensure proper adhesion and coverage of primer.
- Mix and thin primers to proper viscosity for application.
- Maintain a clean and organized painting/priming area.
- Follow all safety protocols, including the use of PPE, proper ventilation, and hazardous material handling.
- Perform quality control checks and touch-ups as needed.
- Communicate with shop foremen and fabricators to prioritize workload and deadlines.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience with steel priming, industrial coatings, or similar work.
- Ability to read and interpret basic shop drawings is a plus.
- Knowledge of proper surface preparation and priming techniques.
- Comfortable working in a fabrication shop environment (exposure to noise, dust, and heavy materials).
- Physical ability to lift up to 75 lbs and stand for long periods.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or in a team.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with airless spray systems or HVLP equipment.
- Familiarity with OSHA safety standards related to coatings and solvents.
- Forklift or overhead crane experience is a plus.
This job does requires the use of a respirator (employees must be clean-shaven where the respirator seals to ensure a proper fit and pass a respirator fit test)
