Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist
Location: East Providence, RI
Compensation: Up to $75,000
Schedule: On-site
A mid-sized industrial manufacturing facility is seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to support and enforce plant-wide safety, environmental compliance, and regulatory programs. This role is highly hands-on, requiring strong analytical ability, excellent documentation practices, and confidence in training, inspections, and compliance management. The EHS Specialist will work closely with plant leadership to maintain safe operations, strengthen regulatory alignment, and support continuous improvement across the facility.
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Compliance
- Conduct facility walkthroughs, inspections, and risk assessments to identify safety, health, and environmental hazards.
- Recommend corrective and preventive actions, monitor compliance, and escalate issues when necessary.
- Maintain and update safety programs, SOPs, hazard communication documents, and Material Safety Data Sheets.
- Lead incident and accident investigations, completing all required documentation and reporting.
- Issue hot work and confined space permits for maintenance and operations teams.
- Manage plant-wide drug policy and ensure adherence.
- Track compliance with OSHA, EHS regulations, plant policies, and applicable state/federal laws.
- Serve as point of contact for external regulatory agencies (OSHA, DOT, DHS, etc.).
Training & Reporting
- Develop and deliver weekly training on workplace safety, emergency response, and operating procedures.
- Prepare, maintain, and present safety inspection reports, accident logs, training documentation, and compliance records.
- Support internal safety committees and act as Plant Safety Committee Leader.
- Provide safety guidance and reinforcement to employees; administer disciplinary action when required.
Environmental Responsibilities
- Monitor PPE compliance and housekeeping standards across the facility.
- Support environmental personnel in regulated areas and ensure alignment with plant environmental plans.
- Assist in preparing for audits, inspections, and environmental reporting.
Operational Support
- Help drive continuous improvement strategies across EHS and environmental programs.
- Order and track safety supplies and PPE.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings, supporting plant leadership on EHS initiatives.
- Provide on-call support, including nights, weekends, or holidays as needed.

Knowledge Requirements
- Working understanding of industrial EHS regulations (OSHA, EPA, NFPA, DOT, DHS, CFR standards)
- Basic chemistry and physics knowledge
- Familiarity with safety practices in chemical or manufacturing environments
Experience
- 6 months experience in a plant or production environment (2 years preferred)
- Prior EHS experience in manufacturing or chemical operations strongly preferred
- Forklift experience a plus
- Experience with scheduling and documentation systems (SAP preferred)
Education
- Required: Bachelor of Science in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety & Health, or related field
- Preferred: 3–5 years of EHS experience in chemical or manufacturing settings
