Resource Navigator

Position Summary:

The SAFE Office provides supportive services to students who have been impacted by interpersonal violence and education and guidance on navigating difficult relationships and building healthy relationships. The SAFE Office also provides outreach to the Rice campus community to deliver education on interpersonal violence and healthy relationships, with the goal of decreasing incidents of relationship and sexual violence (including harassment), stalking, and sex/gender discrimination in the lives of students. The Resource Navigator works one-on-one with students who have experienced interpersonal violence or have been accused of these behaviors and delivers case management services to them, including providing information on reporting options and procedures, accompanying students to meetings, requesting Title IX accommodations, and assisting with community referrals, lethality assessments, and safety planning. They will also create and facilitate trainings related to these topics for staff, faculty, and students. Navigators also serve as CTIS (Critical Thinking in Sexuality) class instructors.

Ideal Candidate Statement:
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of and experience in the fields of interpersonal violence, trauma, case management, and violence prevention programming. They will be enthusiastic about working with students, skilled at recognizing personal biases, able to provide nonjudgmental support while valuing autonomy, and comfortable in crisis situations and highly emotional environments.

Workplace Requirements:
This position is exclusively on-site, requiring all duties to be performed in person at Rice University. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.

Hiring Range: $49,000 - $51,000 annually, contingent upon experience and qualifications.

*Exempt (salaried) positions under FLSA are not eligible for overtime. 

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree

• 1 year of experience providing sexual and domestic violence support services

Skills:

• Knowledge of case management models

• Knowledge of social services for culturally diverse young adult populations

• Outreach skills

• Multicultural competence

• Excellent oral and written communication skills

• Excellent interpersonal skills and judgment

• Excellent problem-solving abilities

• Ability to work flexible hours

Preferences:

• Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, public health, or a related field

• Experience working with college populations, individuals who have experienced interpersonal violence, LGBTQ populations, or addressing social issues affecting young adults

• Licensure as an LBSW, LMSW, LCSW, LPC, or LMFT

• Excellent presentation skills

Essential Functions:

• Provides navigation services to students who have experienced or have been accused of interpersonal violence

• Assists in providing case management for students whose behavior, academic progress, or mental or physical health concerns indicate a need for assistance; identifies students' problems and arranges for needed services both on and off campus

• Provides support, guidance, case management, information, and accompaniments for students

• Provides hospital, police, and criminal justice accompaniments as needed

• Assists with Crime Victims' Compensation

• Responsible for attending community meetings both at Rice University and throughout the greater Houston area

• Maintains case history records and prepares reports when necessary

• Assists in creating and delivering interpersonal violence prevention outreach programming and community-level social services for Rice faculty, staff, students, and their families, as needed, based on the current needs of the University

• Teaches classes on the dynamics of interpersonal violence and prevention

• May be assigned or required to perform additional duties for the benefit of the department or University

• Maintains continuing education requirements for licensure, if applicable

• Performs all other duties as assigned

Additional Functions:

• Some evening and weekend hours are required to provide trainings, participate in community events, and, as needed, accompany students to forensic examinations following an assault
