What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sheriff Patrol Deputy position at Rice County?
The Sheriff Patrol Deputy provides law enforcement services to the citizens of Rice County to include criminal patrol, investigation and follow-up on crimes committed or reported, and enforcement of traffic, water, hunting, fishing, recreational vehicle and park regulations, rules, and statutes. The Sheriff Patrol Deputy performs other related law enforcement activities or orders of the court within Rice County and elsewhere in the State of Minnesota, where mutual aid agreements exist, to protect and serve 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The Patrol Deputy carries out duties in conformance with Federal, State, County, and City laws and ordinances. There is a duty to perform all of the above in an increasingly hostile environment against law enforcement.
This position requires an Associate’s degree in Criminology, Sociology, Psychology or related field and successful completion of Law Enforcement Skills Field Training Program at an accredited facility, or equivalent as mandated by POST (or be eligible for licensure by POST). Must be licensed as a peace officer in the State of Minnesota. Two years previous law enforcement experience is preferred. A valid Driver’s license is required. Must successfully pass a finger-print based criminal history check and maintain annual certification through the BCA.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years previous law enforcement experience is preferred. Bilingual (English/Spanish); 4-year college degree, any other related experience or certifications.
HOURS: Generally, 11- & 12-Hour Rotating Shifts—6am, 5pm, 6pm, and 7pm
HIRING RANGE: Pay range $38.44 - $41.93 per hour. Starting step negotiable based on experienced.
- Patrols all County roads, County State Aid Highways, Township and minimum maintenance road and public access roads to preserve the peace and enforce all traffic laws.
- Testifies in Court of Law as arresting officer in criminal and civil matters whenever needed.
- Performs a variety of law enforcement duties to assist other County, State, and Federal agencies, as required and/or assigned.
- Attends training classes and completes qualifications necessary to maintain Peace Officer license and other certifications.
- All other duties as assigned or apparent.
