Job Description
Rhoads Metal Works, Inc. is a fourth-generation company founded in 1896, servicing the Delaware Valley Tri-State area for over 130 years. We are a leading industrial and institutional mechanical maintenance contractor with a large fleet of field service crews, and a fully equipped custom fabrication shop located in Pennsauken, NJ.
Role Overview
We are currently seeking a reliable and motivated General Laborer to support daily operations in our Pennsauken-based metal fabrication shop. This role is essential to maintaining a safe, efficient, and well‑organized work environment. The Laborer will assist with equipment maintenance, shop cleanliness, preparation and painting of finished products, and safely transporting materials to and from local job sites.
Responsibilities
Shop Maintenance & Support
- Perform miscellaneous maintenance on shop equipment as directed by the Shop Foreman.
- Conduct routine inspections to identify potential maintenance needs or safety hazards.
- Maintain overall cleanliness of the fabrication shop, including sweeping, organizing materials, and disposing of scrap into proper receptacles.
Fabrication & Finishing Support
- Prepare steel components for painting, including cleaning, sanding, masking, priming, and painting.
- Carefully and accurately prepare and protect finished goods for transportation.
- Assist fabricators and welders with material handling as needed.
- Organize and store job-specific materials and stock materials into the correct storage/staging areas.
Logistics & Deliveries
- Make deliveries and pickups to job sites, suppliers, and vendors using company vehicles.
- Ensure all transported materials are properly secured and documented.
- Maintain a clean driving record and follow all safety and traffic regulations.
General Responsibilities
- Follow all shop safety policies and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Communicate effectively with the Shop Foreman regarding tasks, issues, and project priorities.
- Support additional shop duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a shop, construction, or manufacturing environment preferred but not required.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform physical labor in a shop setting.
- Ability to work in a variety of environments that involve dirt, odors, noise, and temperature extremes.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn equipment maintenance.
- Ability to follow safety procedures and work both independently and in a team.
- Maintain a current US Driver’s License and clean driving record.
