What you will be doing
Rhenus USA is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our finance team. This newly created role is ideal for someone ready to advance toward controllership responsibilities. You'll work across multiple branch locations and national operations, gaining a deep understanding of our financial processes while supporting both accounting and FP&A activities.
The position offers significant visibility, including regular interaction with senior leaders such as the Regional CEO, Regional CFO, and Branch Managers.

- Oversee and manage financial results across multiple branch locations.
- Partner with Branch Managers to review monthly performance and present results to national leadership.
- Respond to financial inquiries from branch teams and provide clear, timely guidance.
- Monitor vendor and customer accounts while coordinating closely with AP and AR teams.
- Review and prepare balance sheet reconciliations, including cash, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, and intercompany accounts.
- Manage intercompany cost allocations and support accurate month-end close activities.
- Track and report on cash flow trends and drivers.
- Evaluate current processes, identify gaps, and lead improvements that enhance accuracy and efficiency.
- Support customer and operational analysis to inform decision-making and profitability assessments.
- Assist the Controller with ad-hoc projects, financial analysis, and process enhancements.
- Conduct budget and forecast variance analysis and communicate key insights.
- Support operations teams with accurate forecasting and budgeting inputs.
- Provide documentation and responses for internal and external audits throughout the year.
- Contribute to the preparation of year-end consolidated financial statements.
What skills & experience you will bring to us
- Minimum of 3 years in an accounting role (1-2 years acceptable with public accounting experience).
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Solid understanding of US GAAP; familiarity with IFRS is a plus.
- Strong Excel skills and comfort working with data.
- Experience supporting internal and external audits.
- Public accounting experience; Big Four background is a strong advantage.
- CPA designation or active progress toward CPA certification.
- Hands-on experience with SAP or similar ERP systems.
- Working knowledge of U.S. corporate tax concepts.
- Exposure to group reporting within a multi-entity or global organization.
- Familiarity with data visualization and reporting tools such as Tableau, Qlik Sense, or Power BI.
- International work experience or comfort working in a global environment.
- Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently.
- Clear and confident communication skills.
- Commitment to learning and improving processes.
- Collaborative mindset and experience working with senior leadership.
- Ability to coach and support other team members.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
- Fluent in English; Spanish or German is an asset.
