Job description: A Nutrition Educator assesses the nutritional status of WIC recipients (The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, & Children) to determine WIC eligibility and nutrition risks. The Nutrition Educator works with a Registered Dietitian to assign appropriate food packages and/or therapeutic products for high-risk infants and children. This position provides education to program participants on the importance of proper nutrition, physical activity, and immunizations as well as the negative effects of tobacco use and substance abuse. This position will counsel and support women on healthy pregnancy practices and provide anticipatory guidance for pregnant and breastfeeding women to help them meet their breastfeeding goals. Training in the WIC program will be provided to the applicant chosen for this position to ensure a successful transition into public health.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree, including at least 3 semester hours in nutrition, completion of human anatomy or physiology, and 2 semester hours in education, psychology, or counseling.

Additional information: Employees in this position can qualify for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program run through the Federal Student Aid program.
