Duties
- Prepare and submit accurate medical claims using billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and insurance guidelines.
- Review medical records, diagnoses, procedures (CPT codes), DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group), ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding to ensure precise billing and coding accuracy.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims promptly through effective communication with insurance companies and healthcare providers.
- Manage patient accounts by verifying insurance coverage, explaining billing statements, and resolving billing discrepancies with excellent customer service skills.
- Maintain detailed records of all billing activities, payments received, adjustments made, and collection efforts to ensure transparency and compliance.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation or coding issues that may affect claim submissions or reimbursements.
- Stay updated on changes in healthcare claims management policies, medical coding standards, and health insurance regulations to optimize billing practices.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and healthcare claims processes.
- Proficiency in CPT coding, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding systems, DRG classifications, and ICD coding standards.
- Experience with medical billing software, EMR (Electronic Medical Records), EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems, and Microsoft Office tools.
- Familiarity with health insurance policies, benefits verification, and medical collection procedures.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with patients, insurance representatives, and healthcare providers.
- Ability to analyze complex medical information accurately while maintaining attention to detail.
