Job Summary
We are looking for a meticulous and detail-oriented medical assistant/medical receptionist for our plastic surgery practice. The medical assistant/receptionist works directly with the physician(s) and all other team members to provide high quality care. The main responsibilities include alternating working the reception desk (checking patients in and out and answering the phone), providing direct pre- and post-operative patient care, and performing the administrative duties to support these aspects of care. This job requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment where multi-tasking and communication with all team members is essential.
Duties
o Take patients to the room for their visit.
o Review medical history and accurately enter this into the EMR.
o Take standardized patient photos.
o Present a succinct and organized history to the physician regarding the patient’s history, especially things that would be contraindications for surgery, and reason for visit.
o Assist during medical examinations, anticipating provider needs.
o Complete the pre-operative visit by ensuring all pre-operative protocols are followed, pre-operative testing and medical clearance are completed when needed, consents and post-operative directions are appropriately assigned to and completed by the patient, patient history and medication list is accurate, advise patients of what medications and supplements to stop peri-operatively and when, take additional photos when necessary, measure patients for post-operative garments, and send post-operative prescriptions to the physician to sign.
o Manage post-operative care for patients including dressing removal and changes (including wound vacs), suture removal, and drain removal. Instruct patients on post-operative cares.
o Reconstitute and mix various medications and products and draw up the requested amounts.
o Assist in minor operative procedures by setting up instruments and confirming that all needed supplies are available. Adherence to sterile technique is paramount.
o Assist in obtaining specimens for laboratory and pathology services, complete associated paperwork, and notify the hospital that specimens need to be picked up.
o Answer phone calls related to clinical questions.
Act as the primary employee checking patients in, providing them with appropriate paperwork, ensuring that paperwork is complete and signed, scanning their insurance card and ID into the EPIC EMR system, and updating registration information in EPIC and TouchMD.
o Process all monetary transactions accurately using a point-of-sale system.
o Close the point-of-sale system, balance the drawer, check all receipts for accuracy, and adjust any errors made at the end of shift.
o Register patients for EPIC, Crisalix, and TouchMD. Email new patient paperwork and TouchMD welcome email when appointment is made.
o Schedule appointments according to practice policies; collect and post deposits where appropriate.
Qualifications
· Two years of experience, preferred in plastic surgery
· Knowledge of medical office procedures and medical terminology
· Comfortable performing post-operative care including suture and drain removal, treating wounds, and performing dressing changes (including wound vacs)
· Ability to understand goals and work independently with direction from physician
· Ability to relate well to patients, staff, and other professionals
· Electronic medical records experience (EPIC, Crisalix, and TouchMD preferred)
· Ability to handle confidential issues with discretion
· Strong computer skills, including email and Microsoft Word and Excel
· Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work under pressure
· Social perceptiveness and service oriented
· Neat, professional appearance
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Salary : $20 - $22
