Project Accountant

This role offers an excellent opportunity to oversee project accounting and financial operation while working closely with project management and leadership.  

Salary range is from $90,000.00 to $120,000.00 commensurate with experience.

Essential duties and responsibilities

• Manage and oversee all aspects of project accounting, including job cost tracking, progress billing, and financial reporting. 
• Prepare, review, and submit AIA progress payments and endure billing compliance with contract terms.
• Lead the preparation and analysis of monthly Work In Progress (WIP) reports, providing insights on project profitability and financial health.
• Coordinate with project managers and senior leadership to monitor budgets, forecast costs, and mitigate financial risks. 
• Ensure accuracy and compliance in project-related audits, including workers’ compensation and regulatory filings.
• Review and approve subcontractor invoices, payments, and lien waivers to ensure proper documentation and timely processing. 
• Develop and maintain project accounting procedures, improving efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.
• Mentor and support junior accounting staff in best practices for construction and environmental project accounting.
• Collaborate with external auditors, clients, and vendors to resolve complex financial issues and maintain strong relationships. 
• Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making at the project and organizational level.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (CPA or CMA preferred but not required).
• 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in project or construction accounting.
• Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles, including job costing, progress billing, and WIP reporting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with project managers, leadership, clients, and vendors.
