Job Overview
Retreat 4 Kids is a residential treatment program dedicated to helping adolescent girls heal from substance use, trauma, and emotional challenges. Our program focuses on creating a safe, structured, and nurturing environment where youth can build resilience, develop life skills, and experience lasting recovery.
The Recovery Support Peer Specialist provides direct care and support to youth in a residential treatment setting. This role uses a trauma-informed and recovery-oriented approach to mentor, guide, and support residents in their daily routines and emotional growth.
This position is ideal for individuals with lived recovery experience or those pursuing a career in behavioral health, counseling, or peer support services.
Duties
- Provide peer support by sharing personal recovery experiences to inspire hope and motivation
- Assist clients in developing personalized recovery plans aligned with their goals
- Conduct crisis intervention and management, ensuring safety for clients experiencing acute distress
- Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to encourage positive behavioral changes
- Mentor clients through behavioral health challenges, addiction recovery, and social reintegration
- Provide direct supervision and support to residents in daily activities
- Collaborate with clinical and program staff to support treatment goals
Requirements
- Knowledge of crisis intervention strategies and crisis management protocols
- Support emotional regulation, coping skills, and life skills development
- Background in behavioral health, mental health counseling, or social work preferred
- Strong mentoring skills with the ability to motivate and empower others
- Experience with addiction counseling or related fields is a plus
- Proficiency in motivational interviewing techniques and familiarity with EMR systems
- Excellent communication skills, active listening abilities, and a compassionate demeanor
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening
- Valid drivers license
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Preferred:
- Recovery Support Peer Specialist (RSPS) certification or willingness to obtain
- Experience in behavioral health, residential care, or youth services
- Lived experience in recovery (valued but not required)
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care
